•23hI am planning to buy a new SUV. Should I choose the BMW X3, Audi Q5, or the Mercedes-Benz GLC? I am only considering petrol options.

Autocar India
You should opt for the Mercedes-Benz GLC 300. It is the most complete choice for everyday use and long trips among these three right now. The GLC rides very comfortably on bad roads, and the petrol engine is smooth and quiet. The steering is light in the city, the view out is clear, and the automatic gearbox shifts cleanly on its own, so it is easy to drive even in heavy traffic. Inside, it feels the newest and most upmarket, and Mercedes has a wide service network across big and small cities.Pick the BMW X3 petrol only if driving fun matters most to you and you often enjoy fast highway runs yourself. It feels keener to drive than the other two, especially in the recently introduced xDrive30 variant. Choose the Audi Q5 if you want a solid, comfortable SUV that's nice to drive and excellent value for money. Do bear in mind that it's quite old now and doesn't feel as modern as the other two.Overall, for a balanced, luxurious, and easy-to-own petrol SUV, the GLC 300 is the one to buy.

•1dI own a Maruti Ignis-Zeta AMT Petrol (9-year-old) and a Hyundai Tucson-Diesel (5-year-old). I am considering the BMW X3 30i and Volvo XC60 (not considering GLC due to poor rear seat comfort) for a new car purchase later this year. Which other car(s) should I explore? (Not considering EV unless there is something exceptionally good; not considering sedans due to poor ground clearance, but if there is any worth considering, do recommend. We prefer travelling by road and require good boot space. The rear seat comfort is equally important as is on the driver seat. We are driving enthusiasts and enjoy well-built cars.

Autocar India
The BMW X3 is the better driver's car, while the Volvo XC60 is the better all-rounder. The recently introduced X3 xDrive30 gives the SUV the performance its chassis has always yearned for, and some crucial interior updates like more leatherette trim for a premium feel. It handles exceptionally well and rides comfortably too, plus it meets your other requirements of ground clearance and boot space. However, it still doesn't feel quite luxurious enough, and that's despite costing nearly Rs 10 lakh more than the Volvo. We think you should go for the Volvo XC60, which, though far more relaxed on the performance and handling front, still feels capable and predictable, with more than enough power. Moreover, though, it works much better as a luxury car, with more comfortable seats, front and rear, and a much better-appointed interior. In fact, though it is much older than the X3, the fact that it feels more contemporary on the inside is a testament to this. Its infotainment system is also more logically laid out and easier to use, and it's better equipped than the BMW, including an exquisite Bowers & Wilkins audio system. Its boot isn't quite as large as the X3's, however, though it should be more than large enough for most of your needs. And it's worth bearing in mind that Volvo's dealer and service network isn't as big as BMW's.If you consider a sedan, it should be the BMW 530Li - it's even better to drive than the X3 and has a more spacious and comfy back seat, as well as plenty of boot space. More than ground clearance, it's the car's long wheelbase you have to be careful of over bumps. And if you're considering an electric car, look at the BYD Sealion 7, which is an excellent all-rounder with a luxurious interior and good range. However, if you do long drives regularly, any EV might not be worth the hassle of depending on the public charging infrastructure.

•5dI have Kia seltos GTX+ Diesel, i20 Nline N8 MT and Jimny Alpha MT presently and planning to buy BMW X3 20d. Which car should i dispose among the three cars i own already considering as second car to commute for myself and my wife.

Autocar India
Sell the Kia Seltos GTX+ Diesel and keep the Hyundai i20 N Line N8 MT as your second car alongside the BMW X3 20d, with the Maruti Suzuki Jimny for occasional use. Once the X3 comes in, it covers your big-car and highway needs, so the Seltos overlaps the most. Also, a diesel used mainly for short city trips can be a hassle, because modern diesels have a filter in the exhaust that requires regular high-speed runs to keep clean. For daily commutes, the i20 is the easiest to live with: it is smaller, easier to park, light to steer, and feels quick enough in gaps. The Jimny is charming and tough, but for pure city use it rides a bit bouncy, leans in turns, and needs more effort with the manual in traffic. It shines only if you often drive on broken roads or go on trails and remains a good recreational SUV for the weekends.

•5dHello, I’m in the market for my first, and likely only, luxury car. I’m currently considering SUVs. I’ve test-driven the GLC, the new X3 30, Q5, and the XC60. At this point, I’m leaning strongly toward the X3, although I was quite impressed with the Volvo as well. For some context, I currently drive a 2016 Creta, which is now in its 11th year. My usage is primarily city commuting, averaging around 500 km per month. My main question is whether the X3 is a good daily driver, given its size. I’m planning to make the purchase later this year or early next year, ideally with minimal financing. From a timing perspective, what level of discounts could I expect if I target early next year?

Autocar India
Go for the BMW X3 30i. For your mostly city usage and as a one-time luxury buy, it fits best and will keep you happy. Coming from the Hyundai Creta, the X3 will not feel unwieldy in town. The steering is light at low speeds, the view out is clear, and the 360-degree cameras and parking sensors make navigating tight spots easy. The petrol engine and smooth automatic respond keenly in traffic, and the size feels manageable once you get used to it. Ride comfort is on the firmer side at low speeds, but it stays very steady at higher speeds. One thing to be aware of: the X3’s ride can feel a bit busy on broken city roads at crawl speeds, and the rear seat is not the widest in this class. If you want a calmer SUV, with great seats and more active safety features, the Volvo XC60 is a fine alternative, though Volvo’s dealer network is smaller. If rear-seat comfort matters most, the Mercedes GLC is the one to go for.On timing, the best deals typically come at calendar year-end and around March. A fresh, in-demand X3 usually gets small cash benefits or freebies, while the XC60 and Q5 see bigger cuts more often. Since you’ll use minimal finance, ask dealers to convert low-interest schemes into a straight cash discount or add a long service pack and extended warranty.

•1wPlanning to enter the luxury segment and comparing the c class and bmw 3 series petrol versions. My monthly usage is around 700 to 800kms. Which do u thing is a better car over all, Including usability features ground clearance resale value etc.

Autocar India
The BMW 3 Series is the better all-rounder as it delivers the best balance between driver engagement and everyday usability. The 330Li in particular offers a great mix of performance, comfort, and space — it’s genuinely enjoyable to drive, rides well, and has a far roomier and more comfortable rear seat than the Mercedes C-Class. In comparison, the C-Class’s back seat feels cramped with limited under-thigh support, which can be an issue on longer drives. The C200 petrol variant feels a bit underwhelming in performance next to the 330Li, though the newer C300 comes closer in pace and overall polish. That said, the BMW still feels more dynamic and planted, thanks to its excellent chassis and steering.Ground clearance on both is low by luxury sedan standards, so speed breakers need to be taken with care. In terms of resale, the 3-series generally holds it value well in this segment, and ownership costs are broadly comparable. Overall, the BMW 3 Series 330Li strikes a nicer balance of driving fun, comfort, and practicality, making it the more rounded choice for your usage.

•1wI am considering buying the BMW M340i and have heard from a few sources, including a BMW service technician, that it may be prone to frequent tyre punctures or sidewall damage due to its low-profile run-flat tyres and minimal sidewall height. Could you please clarify whether this is a common issue in real-world Indian driving conditions, especially on highways and roads with occasional rough patches? Also, would switching to non-run-flat tyres or opting for a higher sidewall setup significantly reduce this problem?

Autocar India
On the BMW M340i, what you’ve heard is largely true in Indian conditions. The car comes with low-profile run-flat tyres that have stiff, reinforced sidewalls. This helps you continue driving after a puncture, but it also means there is very little cushioning. On rough roads or sharp potholes, the impact is transferred more directly to the tyre and wheel, increasing the chances of sidewall damage or bulges. This is not a constant issue, but it is something owners do experience on broken roads or bad patches, especially at speed.BMW M340iSwitching to non-run-flat tyres does help. They offer more sidewall flex, which improves ride comfort and reduces the likelihood of damage. Moving to a slightly higher sidewall setup will help, too, but to maintain the overall diameter, you would need to switch to smaller wheels, which adds to the cost.Since the M340i already comes with a space saver spare, switching away from run-flats is much easier and more practical, as you still have a backup in case of a puncture. It is also worth noting that this is not unique to the M340i. Cars like the Mercedes AMG C43, which are sportier versions of the standard model with larger wheels and lower-profile tyres, face a similar risk on poor roads.

•2wHi, I am a doctor by profession and, of course, a car enthusiast. I own a 2022 Jeep Compass 4x4 top model. I am planning to upgrade to a luxury petrol car. My Running is around 800km a month. Which do you think is the best petrol luxury car under a 70 lakh budget? Thank you.

Autocar India
Choose the BMW 3 Series Gran Limousine 330Li M Sport (petrol). It delivers engaging dynamics and a clear luxury upgrade over your Compass, while staying under Rs 70 lakh. With your 800 km/month, petrol is the right pick for smooth, quiet performance and low hassle. As an enthusiast, you’ll feel the step up in steering feel and balance compared to the Jeep Compass 4x4, yet the long‑wheelbase cabin keeps it comfortable for daily use. Within your Rs 70 lakh budget, the M Sport trim delivers the premium fit-finish you’d expect from a top model, along with 6 airbags and strong active safety features. BMW’s warranty can be extended to 6 years, which keeps ownership predictable. Confirm current pricing and package availability with your dealer. The 330Li also rides quite well and doesn't have the hard-edged ride of your Compass. You do have to watch out for speed breakers, though, as the ground clearance is low.If you expect frequent rough roads or prefer a higher seating position, consider the Audi Q5 45 TFSI Technology instead. It rides quite well, has good ground clearance, and its quattro traction inspires confidence without crossing your Rs 70 lakh cap.

•2wI want to buy a new SUV for daily driving under ₹1.5 crore. My driving is around 3,000 km per month, including both city and highway use. I own a GLS Maybach and a Volvo XC90.

Autocar India
While there are a few interesting options in this price range, we feel you should pick the BMW X5 xDrive30d M Sport. Apart from being excellent to drive and very luxurious, it will feel like a nice departure from your GLS and Volvo XC90. BMW's straight-six engines are superb when it comes to refinement, smoothness and performance, and given your intended heavy usage, some of which is on the highway, we'd recommend the diesel, which is strong and efficient. You can easily get more than 700km out of a tank of diesel in your mixed driving cycle. An alternative is the Mercedes-Benz GLE, which offers more rear-seat space and a slightly more comfortable ride, though we feel it will be too similar to your GLS, or the Lexus RX 500h, whose smooth and efficient hybrid powertrain is an excellent alternative to the established order.

•4wHi Team, I am choosing between the C-Class, A4, and 3 Series. My old A3 had leather interiors, which, despite being well-maintained, started to look a century old. Based on your long-term experience, which car offers better interior quality in terms of leather durability and ease of maintenance? This is important to me as I prioritise interior quality.

Autocar India
Go for the Mercedes‑Benz C‑Class C200 with ARTICO upholstery. In Indian heat and humidity, it resists cracking and dye transfer better than the A4’s or 3 Series’ leather options, making upkeep simpler. You specifically worry about leather ageing like your old A3, and ARTICO (a high‑grade synthetic) copes far better with 55°C+ cabin temperatures and 70-90% monsoon humidity than natural hides. It only needs a mild wipe every 2-3 months, rather than conditioning, so routine care takes about 10 minutes instead of a full detail. The grain and dye on darker ARTICO shades also hide creases and denim transfers better over 2-4 years of daily use. Do confirm the exact upholstery on your chosen C200 trim, as Mercedes often fits ARTICO on most Indian variants. The one thing you give up is the soft, natural leather feel and patina. ARTICO can feel a bit firmer and less breathable on longer drives compared with real leather. If you really want a genuine leather feel and are willing to condition it every 4-6 months, consider the BMW 3 Series 330Li M Sport with Vernasca leather instead.

•4wWhich car should I consider buying if I am planning to sell and upgrade from my 2018 Skoda Superb?

Autocar India
It's hard to guide you to the perfect fit without knowing more about your requirements and your budget. However, assuming it's a sedan that you are keen on, the ideal upgrade from a 2018 Skoda Superb would be a BMW 3 Series LWB. The long wheelbase opens up lots of legroom at the back, which is something you'd be used to from the Superb. The 3 Series LWB also delivers on ride comfort and is also very nice to drive. The 330Li petrol is particularly impressive. Further up the price ladder, there's the Mercedes-Benz E-Class. The interior is not just spacious but very well appointed, and feels properly luxurious. Refinement is fantastic too, and there are loads of features and tech packed into the model as well.
