Toyota Hilux Black Edition: what’s new?

Some accessories made standard on Hilux Black Edition

As the name suggests, this new Hilux dons a black exterior paint along with blacked-out finishes for the grille, wing mirrors and door handles – all finished in chrome on the regular Hilux. The 18-inch alloy wheels have also been blacked out for a meaner look. There’s also blacked-out wheel arch cladding and a front skid plate on the Hilux Black Edition, which are available as accessories on the regular Hilux. The Hilux already gets a black finish for the dashboard and black leather upholstery, so no changes have been made to the interior.

The all-black shade is an addition to the existing five colour options of the Hilux: Emotional Red, White Pearl Crystal Shine, Silver Metallic, Super White and Grey Metallic.

Toyota Hilux Black Edition features

Equipment list remains unchanged

The equipment list remains unchanged from the regular High trim of the Hilux. So, you get features like an 8.0-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, dual-zone AC, front and rear parking sensors, LED headlights, 8-way powered driver’s seat, cruise control, 7 airbags and a rear camera.

Toyota Hilux Black Edition engine and specs

Available only with diesel-AT powertrain

Mechanically, the Hilux Black Edition carries over the sole 204hp, 500Nm, 2.8-litre diesel engine, but it can only be had with the 6-speed automatic gearbox. Power is sent to all four wheels, and it also gets an electronic differential lock and automatic limited slip differential for enhanced off-road ability.

Black Editions have really become the rage across segments in recent times. The Hilux is now the only pickup to boast an all-black treatment, but recently, the Mahindra Scorpio NTata Harrier and Safari, and even the MG Comet received special Black Edition variants.
