Tesla CEO Elon Musk has said that faster versions of the new Roadster – which does 0-100kph in 1.9sec – are due.  He said that faster versions of the current ‘base’ model were only a question of safety.

The current (base) 2+2 sports car generates 10,000Nm of torque from its three motors and is also claimed to have a top speed of more than 402kph. Musk also said that the car’s 200kWh battery pack enables it to have a 1,000km range.

Like the rest of Tesla’s range, the Roadster will be equipped with the brand’s latest autonomous driving technology and will be updateable via over-the-air software; the performance, autonomous features and safety systems may be boosted even after a car has been purchased.

The Tesla Roadster is pegged to arrive internationally in 2020.
