The Tesla Model Y facelift has gone on sale in select Asian countries, Australia and New Zealand. Besides Korea, deliveries of the SUV will begin in March. Other markets including North and South America, Europe and the Middle East still offer the pre-facelift Model Y.

  1. Only the Long Range AWD and RWD variants have been refreshed
  2. Revised Model Y (code name: Project Juniper) is 47mm longer
  3. Initial deliveries will begin in China, one of the world’s top EV markets

In January 2024, the Tesla Model Y was crowned the world’s bestselling vehicle, with estimated sales of 1.23 million units.

Tesla Model Y side profile Aerodynamic 19-inch alloy wheels enhance range; connected LED bar at the rear is new.

The 2025 Model Y is 47mm longer than the pre-facelift at 4,797mm, and 1mm narrower at 1,624mm. Its drag coefficient (Cd) has reduced from 0.23 to 0.22, which could contribute to a boost in range and a reduction in wind noise.

The update adopts Tesla’s new design language with a connected light strip identical to the Cybercab robotaxi. Save for the air dam, nearly the entire face is sealed and the flush-fitting door handles help with aero as well. It gets 19- and 20-inch alloy wheel options but the former would be better for maximising range. The LED tail-lamps are connected, too, and the bumper looks chunkier.

Tesla Model Y colors Colours differ based on the region.

Tesla is offering up to six shades with the Model Y, namely Pure Black (in Taiwan only), Starry Grey, Pearl White, Glacier Blue, Flame Red and Quicksilver. The nomenclature and availability of these shades differ in the Asian countries where Tesla's bestseller is offered.

Subtle changes have been made to the materials and equipment. To keep the dashboard uncluttered, the central 15.5-inch touchscreen houses all key controls and runs on an updated OS. The front seats are now ventilated and get new fabric upholstery. Tesla has further added an 8-inch touchscreen at the rear mounted behind the front centre armrest that can be used to play games and control the AC. The Model Y's official boot capacity is unclear, but with the rear seats folded down, it is over 2,130 litres (2,041 litres previously).

The Model Y’s monocoque body frame has been engineered to better absorb impact during a crash. It gets advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) with features like a front autopilot camera and a blind spot monitor. The over-the-air (OTA) updates-enabled touchscreen also displays lane change animations when self-driving. While a Basic autopilot package is standard with the Model Y, Enhanced and Full Self Driving bundles are optional upgrades.

Tesla has only updated the Long Range AWD and RWD Model Y variants as of now. Their claimed range according to the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC) are 719km and 662km, respectively. For reference, this is a 117km and a 59km increase, respectively, over the older Model Y SUV.

Even the 0-100kph sprint time has improved by 0.5 seconds to 4.3 seconds in the AWD car, with the single motor taking 5.9 seconds to clock the 100kph mark. Peak charging speed remains at 250kW, and it tops up 266km of range in 15 minutes.
