2028 nissan skyline teaser

Nissan has released the first pair of teasers for the next-gen Skyline sports sedan, which is set to arrive in 2028 – 14 years after its predecessor first launched. Like the current model, the new Skyline will be sold by Nissan in Japan only, but it is expected to be retailed as an Infiniti model in overseas markets.

2028 Nissan Skyline teasers: What do they show?

Menacing fascia takes some cues from the 2023 Hyper Force concept

The first teaser previews the front end of the new Skyline, which sports an aggressive look somewhat inspired by that of the 2023 Nissan Hyper Force concept. A pair of vertically oriented DRLs can be observed at the outer edges of the recessed headlights, along with a sculpted bonnet that has a central crease. Instead of the Nissan emblem, the leading edge of the Skyline's bonnet sports a new 'S' logo.

Meanwhile, the second teaser shows prominent quad tail-lamps – a design element heavily associated with the GT-R – along with 'Skyline' branding in the classic typeface on the rear fender. The flat side panelling also looks quite retro-inspired, as do the three-box proportions.

Could the new Nissan Skyline form the basis of the R36 GT-R?

Up until the R35 GT-R, the Skyline and GT-R monikers were intertwined. 'GT-R' originally denoted the performance variant of older Skyline generations, but in the pursuit of standalone positioning and a sportier coupe body style, the R35 GT-R ditched the Skyline name.

Nissan recently confirmed that the R36 GT-R would debut by the end of this decade, but it did not say whether the performance offering would be based on the next-gen Skyline. Therefore, while there's historical precedence, the R36 GT-R could well follow in the footsteps of the R35 as a much sportier (and separate) model than the next-gen Skyline.
