Honda has teased its upcoming next-gen Jazz hatchback in the run-up to its official debut at the 2019 Tokyo motor show, which is set to begin on October 23, 2019. Like its predecessors, the hatchback will be sold as the Fit in Japan and carry the Jazz nameplate in European markets.

The teaser image shows that the new Jazz will somewhat redo the current model’s large-glasshouse design, with a stubby bonnet and short overhangs. Previously leaked images show that the front-end shares design cues with newer Honda cars like the recently revealed CR-V facelift. Also, like the current model, the all-new Jazz is expected to have a sub-four-metre length, which means that if brought to India, it would qualify for tax sops for cars under 4m.

Among other highlights of the fourth-gen Jazz – Honda has said that it has been “redesigned with the passenger at its heart,” which means that it is expected to be roomier (read: wider) and more comfortable than the current model, and come with a larger infotainment screen and a digital instrument cluster – is the fact that it will come with a new and compact version of its twin-motor hybrid setup. Whether this setup will be available with the 1.2-litre or 1.5-litre petrol unit is still unknown, but Honda promises “an exceptional blend of strong and effortless driving performance and impressive fuel economy.” Some international markets will also get the option of a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine.

An interesting fact about the next-gen Jazz hatchback is that it will share its underpinnings with the India-bound next-gen Honda City sedan. This upcoming rival to the Hyundai Verna, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and Toyota Yaris is expected to arrive at a Honda showroom near you in 2020. I should come with mild-hybrid and diesel-CVT powertrain options.

More details about the next-gen Honda Jazz will be revealed at the Tokyo motor show.
