MG Motor has released the first set of images and details of an all-new ES5 electric SUV. The ES5 will be a global offering and will be sold in markets like Europe where it is expected to directly replace the MG ZS electric SUV. MG, the Chinese-owned British brand, has lined up a few all-new models for India in the coming years, including a new premium sales channel. However, the brand has not yet confirmed whether the ES5 will come to our shores.

MG ES5: design highlights

The SUV gets a stylish front end, with some design cues including the bumper and headlamp shape similar to the newer MG models such as the Cyberster and the MG 4 hatchback.

The MG ES5 is based on a new EV platform called Nebula, developed especially by its parent brand, SAIC. This platform can support vehicles with a wheelbase of up to 3,100mm and batteries of up to 2 metres in length. It can also support future models equipped with solid-state batteries, electrical architecture, and autonomous driving.

The MG ES electric SUV is 4.4-metre-long, 1.8-metre-wide, and 1.6-metre-high. It gets a wheelbase of 2,730 mm, which is longer than the ZS EV's 2,585mm.

The SUV has a single-motor rear-wheel drive setup, with an output of 167hp of power and 250 Nm of torque. It has a top speed of 170kph and does 0-100 in 8 seconds.
