Lamborghini Urus launched in India at Rs 3 crore

    In a little over a month after its global unveil, Lamborghini has now launched the Urus in India at Rs 3 crore (ex-showroom), making it the new entry point to the brand.

    Based on the MLB Evo platform that also underpins other Volkswagen Group SUVs such as the Bentley Bentayga, Porsche Cayenne and Audi Q7, the Urus utilises plenty of aluminium in its construction and has a claimed kerb weight of under 2.2 tonnes.

    It may not look like it in the pictures, but the Urus is a big SUV – it measures in at well over five metres in length, and in terms of other dimensions, is almost the same size as the Bentayga. Design-wise, it's typically Lamborghini, featuring styling touches inspired by Lambo's first SUV, the LM002.

    Power comes from a 4.0-litre, twin-turbo V8 engine that makes 650hp and 850Nm of torque, and is mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox. Power is put down to the tarmac by a permanent four-wheel-drive system (with a 40:60 front-rear split). Acceleration from 0 to 100kph is dealt with in a claimed 3.6sec, which is quicker than the original Murcielago, and top speed is pegged at 305kph, making the Urus the fastest SUV on the planet.

    Also on offer are active torque vectoring and a rear-wheel-steering system borrowed from the Aventador S. The Urus features 440mm carbon-ceramic brake discs up front, the largest on any production car.

    Adaptive air suspension is standard, as is cylinder deactivation tech that shuts off half a bank of cylinders at city speeds to maximise fuel efficiency. The Urus also gets six drive modes – apart from the usual Strada, Sport and Corsa, there's Neve (snow), Terra (off-road) and Sabbia (sand), along with Ego, a fully customisable mode.

    Inside, it follows a design pattern similar to that seen on the Huracan and Aventador, with plenty of hexagonal elements and the jet fighter-style engine start button. A customisable TFT screen works as the instrument panel and taking centre stage on the dash is the latest Lamborghini infotainment system. The 12-way adjustable front seats are standard, there's good space in the second row and the boot, at 616 litres, is sizeable as well.

    Lamborghini is aiming to double annual global sales to 7,000 cars with the Urus. Cars allotted to India for 2018 are all sold out.
