BMW has released details of its upcoming new Z4 roadster ahead of the car’s India launch in the coming weeks.

As per the details provided, the new Z4 will be available in with a choice of two petrol engines – a 197hp 2.0-litre four-cylinder motor badged the sDrive 20i and a more powerful 340hp 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder unit badged the M40i. Both units will be offered with an 8-speed automatic gearbox as standard. BMW claims a top speed of 250kph for the M40i with the 20i maxing out at 240kph. The sDrive 20i will be offered solely in the sporty M Sport trim.

In terms of acceleration the BMW Z4 M40i sprints from 0-100kph in a claimed 4.5sec. In comparison, the 20i is 2.1sec slower.

Apart from the engines, the Z4 M40i will also be offered with BMW M Sport rear differential, brakes and adaptive suspension with the gearbox being offered with a launch control function.

In terms of styling, the M40i and the M Sport variants will look quite familiar, with the former being offered with more options of paint shades, interior trims and upholstery options. In addition, the M Sport will be available with the option of 18- or 19-inch alloy wheels, while the M40i offered solely a choice of 19-inch units. The M40i will also sit a bit lower to the ground in comparison to the M Sport, likely owing to the adaptive suspension.

The BMW Z4 will come kitted out with ambient lighting, M sport sports seats, a 12-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, BMW’s latest iDrive infotainment software, auto parallel parking, active cruise control which can maintain a predetermined distance from the car ahead, all-digital instrument cluster and a heads-up display. A camera- and radar-based driver assistance system including rear-cross traffic warning, autonomous braking, lane departure warning and rear collision warning will also be included.

In terms of pricing, the new BMW Z4 is expected to be priced in the region of Rs 85 lakhs (ex-showroom) for the entry level four-cylinder model. Expect the roadster to launch in the coming weeks.
