Chevrolet has announced that the Spin MPV, which was earlier confirmed for India, will not be launched in the market here. The carmaker displayed the Spin MPV earlier this year at the Auto Expo 2016 in Delhi and had started road-testing the new model in India.

The cancellation of the launch means there will be only one MPV from GM in India, and that is the Chevrolet Enjoy.

Globally, the Chevrolet Spin MPV takes on the likes of the Ertiga, the Honda Mobilio and the Renault Lodgy. With customers showing a preference for vehicles that are rugged and come with higher ground clearance, the MPV market is currently experiencing a sharp decline. In terms of sales, Segment leaders like the Ertiga and other contenders like the Mobilio, Lodgy and Chevrolet’s own Enjoy MPV  are seeing a slowdown.

Following the crossover trend, Chevrolet will produce the Beat Activ cross-hatch which was shown as a concept earlier this year at the Auto Expo. The cross-hatch is based on the all-new Beat hatchback which was revealed recently. Chevrolet will also bring in a compact sedan called Beat Essentia which will share components with the Beat hatchback and the Beat Activ.

The carmaker has announced that it will launch five new models in the next 24 months. While three of them are based on the new Beat hatchback, the remaining two are likely to be the all-new Cruze sedan and the facelifted Chevrolet Trailblazer SUV.
