The BMW i4 has become the latest model in the German brand’s international line-up to receive a wide-reaching refresh. The i4 was the best-selling electric BMW worldwide last year; with more than 83,000 sales, the i4 M50 xDrive cemented its position as the best-selling M model in both 2022 and 2023.

To help the i4 stand out against an increasing number of rivals such as the Mercedes EQE sedan, BMW has added new technology, subtly updated the exterior and made a host of changes inside.

  1. BMW i4 facelift gets new kidney grille and sharper-looking lights
  2. New smaller gear selector and reshaped AC vents among the changes inside
  3. BMW i4 facelift India launch likely

The i4 gets a new matt chrome kidney, with its closed-off front grille receiving a matt silver honeycomb pattern. In M Sport specification, it receives an updated gloss black rear diffuser. The most noticeable changes are to the light units, which give the i4 a sharper look at the front and rear. The low and high beams now generated from a single LED module.

Bigger changes appear inside the two cars. BMW has added a smaller gear selector to match that in many of its other EVs, including the iX1 and iX3 SUVs. It has also reshaped the climate control air vents, swapping the previous side-by-side airflow adjustment system to a more minimalist style, instead utilising smaller rotary switches.

Both are equipped with BMW's iDrive 8.5 infotainment system, plus an updated steering wheel with illuminated buttons. In M Sport spec, the i4 gets a flat-bottomed steering wheel.

In international markets, the i4 has three specifications, starting with the i4 eDrive35, which comes with 295hp and up to 500km of range. The mid-range i4 eDrive40 ups power and range to 340hp and 600km, respectively. Then there's the i4 M50 xDrive, which packs 544hp and 795Nm of torque, along with a 520km range. It also dispatches 0-100kph in just 3.9sec.

BMW i4 facelift for India

BMW India has not yet revealed when the i4 facelift will launch here, though it is likely to come to our shores. However, the outgoing i4 has been on sale since May 2022. Available only in mid-spec eDrive40 form, the i4 is currently priced at Rs 72.50 lakh ex-showroom, India. The all-electric sedan has no direct rivals in the country, for now.
