An all-new generation of Great Wall Motor’s (GWM) Haval H5 is being developed as images of the new model have recently surfaced online. These images show a design that’s a huge departure from the previous-generation H5, the production run of which ended back in 2017.

What we can tell from the photos is that the new H5’s design is considerably boxier. It ditches the older H5’s softer, rounded-off front end for a more squared-off one. At the front is a new upright headlight and grille design as well as black bumpers. Other additions are roof racks and black cladding all around that give the SUV a more rugged look. The overall design of the new H5 appears well proportioned.

Technical details of the new Haval H5 are sparse as no official announcements have yet been made. However, Haval will likely offer the all-new H5 SUV with a 1.5-litre petrol-hybrid, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol, and a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine options. The 1.5 turbo-petrol and 2.0 turbo-petrol engines also power other models like the Haval F7.

In terms of dimensions, the new H5 is not expected to be drastically different than the previous model which measured 4,649mm in length, 1,810mm in width, 1,735mm in height, and had a 2,700mm-long wheelbase. These dimensions are very similar to models like the Tata Harrier, MG Hector and Mahindra XUV500 available in our market. It is also worth noting that the previous-generation Haval H5 was tested in India a few years back.

Great Wall Motor (Haval’s parent company) confirmed its entry into the Indian market earlier this year, and has already acquired GM India’s Talegaon manufacturing facility. GWM also had a strong showing at Auto Expo 2020, where it had on display a large number of models, many of which were from the Haval sub-brand. The models showcased included the H9, F7, F7XH conceptF5 and Vision 2025 concept. However, GWM has made no statements regarding the introduction of these models in our market.
