Volkswagen has introduced a subscription plan for the Taigun just a month after launching the SUV. The plan allows customers to subscribe and own a Taigun – instead of purchasing it outright – in lieu of a monthly fee. With this, things like insurance renewal, periodic maintenance and resale are all handled by VW’s partners. The move is aimed at reducing the hassles of car ownership, although it comes at a price. Volkswagen had introduced a similar subscription service for the Polo, Vento and T-Roc in September this year.

Volkswagen Taigun subscription: plans and rental fees
Volkswagen has tied up with car leasing company Orix to offer the Taigun with subscription plans for 24, 36 or 48 months. The monthly rental starts at Rs 28,000 and covers 100 percent on-road financing of the vehicle, as well as the insurance and periodic maintenance services, which will be handled by Orix.
In the first phase, the subscription is being offered by 30 VW dealerships in seven cities – Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad. VW has said that all variants of the Taigun, except the 1.5-litre petrol-manual GT trim, will be available for subscription with a white number plate.
It must be pointed out that the Taigun can still be purchased the conventional way and the subscription service will be a nice alternative to customers looking for flexibility in car ownership. VW has also said that the subscription will come with "an option to upgrade or return the car at the convenience of the customers.”
Volkswagen Taigun: engine, gearbox details and price
Underpinned by the India-focused MQB A0 IN platform, the Taigun is powered by either a 115hp, 1.0-litre TSI turbo-petrol engine, or a 150hp, 1.5-litre TSI mill. Both gearboxes come mated to a 6-speed gearbox as standard. While the smaller motor gets an optional six-speed torque converter auto gearbox, the larger petrol also offers a seven-speed DCT automatic transmission as an option.
Purchased the conventional way, the Taigun costs Rs 10.50-Rs17.50 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
Volkswagen is aiming to sell over 5,000 units of the Taigun each month. It faces stiff competition from its sibling, the Skoda Kushaq, as well as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and the recently launched MG Astor.
Car subscription services in India
Over the years, many automakers have jumped onto the subscription and leasing services bandwagon. These include Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Skoda, Honda, Mahindra, Tata, Toyota, MG, Jeep and Nissan.
