VW has updated the soft parts for a refreshed visual appeal

As part of its 2026 facelift, the Taigun comes with a thoroughly updated front fascia that appears to be inspired by the Tayron, with most of the styling updates making for a more upmarket look. This front end hosts a new bumper with a protruding chin and large horizontal slats embellished in chrome, new headlamps with a connected LED element and a sleek grille with an illuminated VW logo. Most of these design cues remain the same in the GT trim, but the chrome in the bumper is replaced by a gloss-black finish.

The 2026 Taigun GT also uses black for the front diffuser, alloy wheels, outside rearview mirror (ORVM) housings and roof rails. There are also red ‘GT’ badges on the front grille and the front doors. The non-GT trim shown here features a silver front diffuser, two-tone alloy wheels, chrome-garnished door handles and silver roof rails. Providing some of that SUV-esque butch factor are the black lower-body cladding and wheel arches. While the rear design of the 2026 Taigun facelift has not yet been revealed, it is expected to have revised LED tail-lamps and an illuminated VW logo.

These could come in the form of a panoramic sunroof, massaging rear seats and an updated digital driver’s display and touchscreen infotainment unit, with artificial intelligence integrated into the latter. Moreover, Volkswagen is also expected to upgrade the air-conditioning system of the Taigun for enhanced cooling.

The 2026 Volkswagen Taigun facelift is expected to retain the pre-facelift model’s 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre direct-injection turbo-petrol engine options. The former is a three-cylinder mill capable of producing 115hp and 178Nm, while the latter is a four-cylinder unit that can put out up to 150hp and 250Nm. The 1.5 TSI engine is likely to retain the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox from the pre-facelift model, though the 1.0 TSI unit is now expected to be offered with a new 8-speed automatic transmission, alongside a 6-speed manual gearbox.
