Tata Motors has just dropped the first teaser of the upcoming Sierra EV, which will be the brand’s seventh all-electric model, ahead of its debut on June 30.  Like all of Tata’s existing electric models, the Sierra EV will be an EV conversion of its ICE counterpart. It’s expected to be largely similar inside and out, save for some EV-specific updates. As for powertrains, the Sierra EV is expected to share its battery and motor configurations with those of the Harrier EV

The Sierra EV has been in the making for a long time, first showcased as a design concept way back in February 2020. Since then, we have a seen an evolution of the original concept, taking it closer to production-spec. It’s been in the pipeline for over six years now, and is a highly anticipated model joining the growing list of midsize electric SUVs.

Tata Sierra EV: what to expect?

The Sierra EV will carry over the signature look that characterises the ICE-powered Sierra. So, it will have the same squared-off design with connected LED headlights and tail-lamps, blacked-out A- and C-pillars, along with, of course, the Sierra’s distinct curved-over rear-window design. The fascia, however, will receive a slightly dissimilar treatment, with varied use of colours – it gets a body-coloured sealed-off grille, unlike the ICE-powered Sierra’s functional grille finished in black. Top-spec trims can be expected to come with 19-inch wheels.

Expect similarities to continue inside the cabin, too. The triple-screen setup – comprising a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch central touchscreen and a 12.3-inch passenger screen – is likely on the higher trims, whereas lower variants could get a dual-screen setup and a head-up display (HUD). Other expected features include a panoramic sunroof, powered and ventilated front seats, a premium audio system and drive modes.

The Sierra EV will have a slightly different fascia compared to the ICE-powered Sierra.

Mechanically, the Sierra EV is expected to be related to the Harrier EV. Therefore, it will likely be underpinned by Tata’s acti.ev+ architecture and carry over the Harrier EV’s 65kWh and 75kWh battery options. Tata’s chief commercial officer, Vivek Srivastava, in an interview with Autocar India, had confirmed that the Sierra EV will arrive in both RWD and AWD guises. Tata is expected to offer AWD only with the 75kWh version. However, one can expect the Sierra to offer better range from the same batteries, as it is slightly smaller than the Harrier EV.

The Sierra EV will slot right between the Curvv EV and Harrier EV in Tata’s rapidly expanding EV portfolio. Expected to be priced in the Rs 18 lakh to Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom) ballpark, it will rival the likes of the Mahindra BE 6Hyundai Creta Electric, MG ZS EV and Maruti e Vitara.
