Tata Motors is looking beyond the freshly launched Sierra and is already studying additional body styles that could expand the SUV into a family of models. With introductory ex-showroom prices for the 5-seat Sierra starting at Rs 11.49 lakh, the company now has room to explore variants that sit above it without overlapping with the Harrier, Safari or Curvv.

  1. Tata Sierra family could expand beyond the 5-seat model
  2. 7-seat and AWD versions possible on ARGOS platform
  3. Market response to Sierra would determine the decision on line-up expansion

Tata eyes segment expansion with a longer, 3-row Sierra

With the standard Sierra now on sale, Tata is evaluating a longer-wheelbase, 3-row version. Executives say any extension of the Sierra line-up must deliver incremental volumes and maintain clear spacing from the Harrier and Safari. A 7-seater fits this requirement and would allow Tata to enter a growing segment.

A 3-row Sierra would slot above the current model but below full-size D-segment SUVs.

Tata Sierra AWD and EV also on the table

Sierra EV with AWD launch expected in 2026

Apart from a 7-seat model, Tata is developing a more rugged, AWD Sierra aimed at buyers who want mild off-road capability without compromising on practicality. The brand revealed that all-wheel drive is in development for both ICE and EV variants.

Speaking to Autocar India, Tata Motors’s chief commercial officer, Vivek Srivatsa, confirmed a launch for the ICE AWD version in early 2027. The Sierra EV is scheduled for next year.

ARGOS platform supports multiple body styles

New architecture gives Tata room to grow the Sierra line-up

The ARGOS (All-terrain Ready, Omni-Energy and Geometry Scalable Architecture) platform that underpins the ICE Sierra can support petrol, diesel, CNG and hybrid powertrains.

Shailesh Chandra, managing director and CEO of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd, describes ARGOS as “the highest-scale programme executed by Tata Motors”, involving a new platform, a new powertrain family, a new top-hat and updated manufacturing systems.

ARGOS supports AWD hardware, multiple wheelbase options and different interior layouts. This flexibility makes a 7-seat Sierra and an AWD version technically feasible without major re-engineering. Tata will take a final call on these models once the Sierra’s early market performance stabilises.
