  1. Maruti Invicto is based on the Toyota Innova Hycross
  2. It is the first Maruti Suzuki to be automatic only

Based on the Innova Hycross, the Invicto will also be built at Toyota’s Bidadi plant alongside the Hycross, much like the Grand Vitara and Hyryder. The Invicto is the eighth product in Maruti Suzuki's Nexa dealership.

Maruti Suzuki Invicto exterior

While the Invicto and the Innova Hyrcoss share most of the design, the grille on the Maruti MPV is different from the Toyota – the Invicto has the same basic shape but a different mesh and two thick, horizontal chrome slats that extend into the headlights. Speaking of which, the headlights feature Nexa’s three-block signature daytime running lamps. Maruti Suzuki’s new MPV also has a differently designed front bumper and faux skid plates.

The only difference between the Invicto and the Hycross, in profile, is the design of the 17-inch alloy wheels. At the back, the Invicto’s tail-lights also feature Nexa’s three-block design. Apart from this as well as the Maruti Suzuki, Invicto and hybrid badges, the two MPVs look very similar.

In terms of dimensions, the Invicto is identical to the Innova Hycross. It measures 4,755mm in length, 1,850mm in width and 1,795mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,850mm.

Maruti Suzuki Invicto interior and features

Even inside, the similarities between the two MPVs continue. While the Innova Hycross gets black and brown interiors with silver accents, the Invicto to gets an all-black interior with Champagne Gold accents. The rest of the interior is identical to its Toyota counterpart and will be offered with 7- and 8-seat configurations. The Invicto has a boot space of 239 litres and can be expanded up to 690 litres with the third row folded down.

In terms of features, the Invicto gets a 10.1-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. Other features include a 360-degree camera, a panoramic sunroof with roof ambient lighting, a powered driver's seat, powered tailgate, dual-zone climate control, ventilated front seats and cupholders, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster and more than 50 Suzuki Connect features. Safety features include six airbags as standard, ABS, electronic parking brake, stability control and hill start assist.

Maruti Suzuki Invicto powertrain and platform

Under the hood, the Invicto gets a strong-hybrid powertrain with a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder engine mated to an electric motor. Combined, it produces a 186hp and it is mated to an e-CVT. This makes the Invicto the first hybrid-only and automatic-only Maruti Suzuki model. The Invicto, being a strong-hybrid, also offers an electric-only mode. It can do the 0-100kph run in 9.5 seconds (claimed) and has a claimed fuel efficiency of 23.24kpl.

As it's based on the Toyota Innova Hycross, it is underpinned by a monocoque chassis that uses Toyota's TNGA-C 'High' platform. It has a transversely mounted engine, which sends power to the front wheels.

Maruti Suzuki Invicto rivals

The Invicto will solely rival the Toyota Innova Hycross. It would have also competed with the Kia Carnival, but it was recently discontinued as it did not comply with the new, stringent BS6 Phase 2 norms. The Invicto can be compared to similarly priced three-row SUVs like Mahindra XUV700 and Scorpio N, Hyundai Alcazar, MG Hector Plus and Tata Safari.
