Yamaha XSR155 What to Expect

Design and Quality

9

The Yamaha XSR155 uses a clean neo-retro design with simple lines and a distinctive silhouette. Autocar India found the fit and finish good for the price, with the bike feeling premium overall. Its styling combines retro cues with the underlying sporty character of Yamaha’s R15 and MT-15 platform.

Position and Comfort

8

The XSR155 has a roomy riding position, which makes it less cramped for larger riders than Yamaha’s sportier 155cc models. Its wider handlebar has a slight forward reach, while the rear-set footpegs give it a mildly aggressive riding position. The 810mm seat height can be less accessible for shorter riders.

Performance and Fuel Economy / Range

8

The 155cc single-cylinder engine produces 18.4hp and 14.2Nm and is paired with a six-speed gearbox. It likes to be revved, with VVA helping the engine deliver stronger top-end performance. In Autocar India’s tests, the XSR155 accelerated from 0-100kph in 11.66sec. It can cruise comfortably at 100kph and has a higher top speed than the Hunter 350. Fuel efficiency is a strong point that was recorded 50.3kpl in the city and 51.7kpl on the highway, with an average of 51kpl.

Ride and Handling

7

The XSR155 is very light at 137kg, making it particularly nimble in traffic. Its deltabox frame and relatively firm suspension make it quick to change direction and engaging through corners. However, the stiff suspension, especially at the rear, requires more care over speed breakers and undulations and can become tiring on poor roads over longer periods. Braking performance was confidence-inspiring in Autocar India’s testing.

Features and Safety

7

The XSR155 gets a fully digital instrument cluster with smartphone connectivity for call and message alerts, traction control, VVA, USD front forks, a monoshock, full-LED lighting and an assist-and-slipper clutch. Its modern equipment list is one of the bike’s stronger points.

Price and Verdict (Overall Rating)

8

The XSR155 is positioned as a performance-focused retro motorcycle that combines strong acceleration, low weight and high fuel efficiency. Its main compromises are the stiff suspension and some shortcomings in the switchgear, including the high-beam flash button and horn/indicator layout.
