Yamaha Aerox 155 Expert Review

The Yamaha Aerox 155 stands out with its step-through design, which is different from most scooters in India. Its sculpted bodywork, LED headlights, 14-inch wheels, chunky tyres and large exhaust give it a sporty look. However, some areas could be better finished. The fuel-filler flap feels flimsy, the pillion footpegs do not sit flush with the bodywork and the floor mats are uneven. There are also some inconsistent panel gaps and shut lines.

The Yamaha Aerox 155 is not the most spacious scooter. There is no floorboard space for luggage, while the front apron can interfere with the knees of taller riders. The prominent step on the seat also limits how far back you can sit. However, the large underseat area offers 24.5 litres of storage. The 790mm seat height is slightly taller than most scooters but remains accessible.

The 155cc, liquid-cooled, four-valve engine gets VVA technology and makes 15hp. It is one of the quickest scooters in the country, with strong and linear acceleration. It can comfortably cruise at 90-100kph on the highway and reached an indicated 117kph during testing. Fuel efficiency can go up to 50kpl in the city when ridden carefully, while hard riding can bring it below 40kpl.

The Yamaha Aerox 155 feels heavier to steer than most scooters but offers excellent stability and holds its line well. Its 14-inch wheels and wide tyres give it an almost motorcycle-like feel through corners. The rear suspension is firm, making the ride less comfortable over city bumps, although it is not harsh or jarring. The front brake is adequate, while the rear drum lacks bite.

The Yamaha Aerox 155 gets LED lighting, a fully digital instrument cluster, Bluetooth connectivity, an external fuel filler, stop-start system, a DC charging port, single-channel ABS and a side-stand cut-off. Bluetooth provides call and SMS alerts and other functions, but does not offer navigation or music controls.

The Yamaha Aerox 155 is capable of providing quick city transport while also being comfortable on highways and enjoyable in corners. The long-term report also highlighted its effortless highway cruising, motorcycle-like stability and useful storage.
