Hero MotoCorp Xoom 160 expert review

Design and Quality

8.0

The Hero Xoom 160 makes a strong first impression with its large maxi-scooter styling, twin LED headlamps, tall windscreen and sleek tail section. It has excellent road presence and looks more premium than most scooters in its segment. Details like the aluminium swingarm and integrated grab handle add to the appeal. However, the quality of some plastics and the switchgear doesn’t feel as premium as the design suggests.

Position and Comfort

7.0

Hero has done a good job of making this large scooter accessible. The 787mm seat height allows shorter riders to get their feet down easily, while taller riders also get decent room to move around. The riding position is generally comfortable, and the pillion seat is wide and spacious. The only drawback is the sloping rider’s seat, which can become mildly uncomfortable on longer rides.

Performance and Fuel Economy / Range

7.0

The new 156cc liquid-cooled engine is smooth, refined and delivers strong mid-range performance. Acceleration builds progressively rather than aggressively, making the scooter feel relaxed and capable on highways. Throttle response is predictable, but the accelerator requires an unusually long twist to access full performance, which can become annoying over time.

Ride and Handling

7.0

The Xoom 160 is not as plush as its ADV-inspired styling may suggest. Its suspension has a firmer setup that feels similar in character to the Yamaha Aerox 155. It remains comfortable on smooth roads but feels unsettled over broken surfaces, where the scooter’s weight becomes more noticeable. Handling is stable at city speeds, though it doesn’t feel as natural or agile through corners as some of its 14-inch-wheel rivals.

Features and Safety

8.0

The Xoom 160 comes well equipped with keyless operation, Bluetooth connectivity, a centre-mounted fuel filler, a useful front storage cubby and a 22-litre underseat compartment that can fit a full-face helmet. It also gets single-channel ABS. However, the simple LCD display feels basic for a premium scooter, and traction control is missing.

Price and Verdict (Overall Rating)

7.0

The Hero Xoom 160 succeeds as a stylish and practical maxi-scooter with good highway performance and useful everyday features. While the firm suspension and a few quality shortcomings prevent it from being the complete package, it remains one of the most attractive locally made maxi-scooters currently on sale.
