Hi. I commute around 15 km every day. Please suggest a bike for me. My budget is below Rs. 1 lakh.

Since your budget is under Rs 1 lakh, pick a 100-110cc commuter from the likes of the Hero HF / Passion Plus, Honda Shine 100, Bajaj Platina 110 and TVS Sport / Star City Plus / Radeon models. The 100cc models will, of course, return more fuel efficiency than the 110s, and if you must have the lowest running costs possible, then opting for the smaller machines makes sense. All of these bikes have been around for a very long time and are hardy, reliable and time-tested products, so no matter which one you choose, you can't really go wrong. Take test rides to help make your decision process a little easier.

I have lower back pain and currently ride a Bullet 350 ES with gas-filled rear suspension and a well-padded touring seat. It is comfortable on long rides, but fuel efficiency with E20 fuel is a major issue. I also have to use additives or fill premium petrol; otherwise, power delivery becomes jerky. Putting XP100 improves efficiency substantially, but the price difference is significant, and availability is limited. I want to buy an additional scooter or a 100-150cc motorcycle that is very kind on my back. I recently read about the Destini 110 having superb plush suspension. What else would you suggest within a budget of under Rs. 1 lakh for around 150km of daily riding? The bike must have excellent suspension and ride quality.

Since your daily run is quite long and you value comfort and fuel efficiency over all else, we'd recommend you stick with a commuter motorcycle. In your budget, if you want a bike that's comfortable over bad roads, then the Bajaj Platina 110 is our recommendation. Its thickly padded seat, pliant suspension and neutral ergonomics will keep you comfortable for longer distances over all sorts of roads. The Platina's one big drawback is that it cannot be had with a disc brake, and its drums provide only adequate performance. In that vein, it would be prudent to look at the TVS Radeon. The Radeon has similar strong suits as the Platina, but it can be had with a front disc brake on its top variant, which is the one we'd recommend for reliable stopping power over a longer duration.Take test rides of both to see which one you resonate with more before you make your decision.

I want to buy a two-wheeler in the 100-110cc segment, but there are too many options available. My daily running is around 15 km. Please suggest the best option for my usage.

If you value the comfort and fuel efficiency of a motorcycle, then you should be looking at the Hero HF / Splendor models, Honda Shine 100 / Livo, Bajaj Platina 100 / 110 and TVS Sport / Star City Plus and Radeon. You might be overwhelmed by the many options we've suggested but the good news is that all of these bikes are simple, reliable and fuel efficient machines which should last you a long time without major trouble. This means that no matter which one you choose, odds are you'll likely be making a purchase that will last you many years provided you take good care of it. On the flip side, if you value the convenience and practicality of a scooter, then we'd recommend you look at the TVS Jupiter and Honda Activa. Both of these are accomplished products but the Jupiter is clearly the better product of the two. However, Honda's service is known to be friction-free and affordable, something that can't necessarily always be said about TVS. It would be prudent to take test rides of the machines you shortlist before you make a decision.

I’m a first-time bike owner looking for a bike with good pillion comfort and decent fuel efficiency. My budget is around ₹1 lakh to ₹1.2 lakh.

In your budget, options like the Honda Shine / SP125, Hero Super Splendor / Glamour and TVS Radeon would be our recommendation. The Radeon is the only 110cc commuter here, whereas the Hero and Honda options have 125cc engines. So they will feel a little more capable when riding with a pillion. All the bikes suggested here have great fuel economy, and with their long, single-piece seats, should also be great to carry a pillion. Take a test ride of the suggested options before you make a decision.
