Trending Questions on Bikes - Answered by Autocar Experts
I am 30 years old and my body weight is 58 kg and I am 5'3" tall. In July 2025, I had a lumbar microdiscectomy surgery. I work as a physiotherapist so I have to travel around 40 km daily on my bike. Which is the most fuel efficient bike in the 150cc segment at low price?
Given your long 40km daily commute, a history of back issues and valuing fuel efficiency and a good price, the Honda Unicorn is the best fit in the 150-160cc category. It has a very comfortable and upright riding position, a well-padded seat and a soft suspension setup that absorbs bad roads well, which is important for your back. The engine is smooth and refined, and Honda’s reliability and low maintenance costs make it a sensible long-term choice. It is not the most feature-rich bike in the segment, but it does the basics extremely well and is known for its comfort and durability. If you instead want something that looks and feels a little sportier, then look at the Hero Xtreme 160R 4V. The Xtreme is a lightweight, comfortable, feature-rich and proven offering which adds a dash of style to the proven commuter recipe. The Xtreme is a good deal more expensive than the Unicorn but also brings in more features and better mechanicals to justify that premium. Take test rides of both and see which one is more comfortable for you as well as in your budget before you make your decision.
I'm looking for an electric scooter under Rs. 1 lakh (on-road) in Mysore as a secondary two-wheeler alongside my Honda CB350RS (e20 compliant). The EV will be mainly used by my wife for daily errands, and I will occasionally use it for my office commute, which is 3 km one way. Our maximum daily running will be around 12 km. Which one would you recommend?
The TVS Orbiter V2 will just about fit in your budget and is a good fit for your basic daily needs. If you can make the small stretch for it, go for the iQube 2.2, which will offer you a more appealing overall experience.
Hi. I commute around 15 km every day. Please suggest a bike for me. My budget is below Rs. 1 lakh.
Since your budget is under Rs 1 lakh, pick a 100-110cc commuter from the likes of the Hero HF / Passion Plus, Honda Shine 100, Bajaj Platina 110 and TVS Sport / Star City Plus / Radeon models. The 100cc models will, of course, return more fuel efficiency than the 110s, and if you must have the lowest running costs possible, then opting for the smaller machines makes sense. All of these bikes have been around for a very long time and are hardy, reliable and time-tested products, so no matter which one you choose, you can't really go wrong. Take test rides to help make your decision process a little easier.
Hi, please suggest an EV two-wheeler, should I purchase non brand non RTO electric two-wheeler like Strikeco in on road price of 51k with a lead-acid battery, or with a lithium battery of 71000 or go for a Bajaj Chetak or TVS I Cube scooter or orbiter on road pricing around 1.20 lacs, as running is 1000 kms per month.
It is not worth going for these electric scooters from unproven brands, which are likely of Chinese origin, sold here under dubious names and in a slapdash fashion, especially since your usage is on the higher side. If something goes wrong, then going to a reputed brand for a fix will be easier than these upstarts, which have no guarantee of being there tomorrow.Given your Rs 1.20 lakh budget, we'd recommend going for the TVS iQube 3.1 or Chetak 3503, which will give you over 100km of real-world range on a single charge, and both come from reputed brands. These scooters have also made a name for themselves by having the fewest reported widespread issues. Whichever one you choose, you can't go wrong with either of them, and we'd recommend a test ride of both before you make a decision.
I have lower back pain and currently ride a Bullet 350 ES with gas-filled rear suspension and a well-padded touring seat. It is comfortable on long rides, but fuel efficiency with E20 fuel is a major issue. I also have to use additives or fill premium petrol; otherwise, power delivery becomes jerky. Putting XP100 improves efficiency substantially, but the price difference is significant, and availability is limited. I want to buy an additional scooter or a 100-150cc motorcycle that is very kind on my back. I recently read about the Destini 110 having superb plush suspension. What else would you suggest within a budget of under Rs. 1 lakh for around 150km of daily riding? The bike must have excellent suspension and ride quality.
Since your daily run is quite long and you value comfort and fuel efficiency over all else, we'd recommend you stick with a commuter motorcycle. In your budget, if you want a bike that's comfortable over bad roads, then the Bajaj Platina 110 is our recommendation. Its thickly padded seat, pliant suspension and neutral ergonomics will keep you comfortable for longer distances over all sorts of roads. The Platina's one big drawback is that it cannot be had with a disc brake, and its drums provide only adequate performance. In that vein, it would be prudent to look at the TVS Radeon. The Radeon has similar strong suits as the Platina, but it can be had with a front disc brake on its top variant, which is the one we'd recommend for reliable stopping power over a longer duration.Take test rides of both to see which one you resonate with more before you make your decision.
