KTM 390 Adventure R
The KTM 390 Adventure R is a 398.7cc adventure motorcycle that produces 46hp and 39Nm. Although the model sits between the 390 Adventure X and the top-spec 390 Adventure in KTM's lineup, its adjustable, longer-travel suspension, larger 18-inch rear wheel and spoked wheels with tubed tyres make it feel closer to Enduro R. The bike is well suited for off-roading thanks to its cornering ABS with a dedicated off-road ABS mode. However, vibrations become noticeable at around 5,000rpm through the foot pegs and handlebars, which may be uncomfortable during longer rides.

KTM 390 Adventure R expert review
8.0
The KTM 390 Adventure R retains the familiar adventure-bike design, with new graphics and orange-finished chassis elements and handguards. Its build quality is solid overall, although the rally tower can produce some rattling noises when ridden hard off-road or over rough potholes.
8.0
The upright riding position and narrow midsection provide good control while standing on the pegs. However, the handlebar could have been wider, while the windscreen can cause buffeting at highway speeds. The tall 880mm seat height requires some experience, and the seat is not particularly comfortable for long-distance touring.
8.0
The 398.7cc engine produces the same power and torque as the standard 390 Adventure. The larger rear wheel and Enduro-style gearing give it slightly stronger low-rpm performance. Acceleration remains strong once the engine crosses 6,000rpm, although noticeable vibrations around 5,000rpm can become tiring. The gearbox is generally slick, and the quickshifter works well.
8.0
This is where the 390 Adventure R stands out. Its adjustable long-travel suspension handles rocks, loose dirt and technical trails with impressive composure. The Mitas E07 Enduro Trail+ tyres provide strong grip both on and off the road. However, the 183kg weight and tall seat height mean it is better suited to experienced off-road riders.
8.0
The 390 Adventure R gets adjustable suspension, spoked wheels, Bluetooth connectivity, USB charging and off-road ABS. The setup focuses more on off-road capability than touring comfort.
8.0
The KTM 390 Adventure R is a highly capable off-road ADV with excellent suspension, strong grip and impressive chassis control. Its compromises include the tall seat, limited touring comfort and tubed spoke wheels. For experienced riders seeking serious off-road ability, it is a compelling package.
