KTM India has launched the hardcore, off-road-focused 390 Adventure R in the country. This variant is the most off-road-capable model in the 390 Adventure line-up, featuring long-travel suspension, larger wheels and enhanced ground clearance. If you’re considering one, here are answers to some of the most frequently asked questions.

What is the engine capacity and power output of the KTM 390 Adventure R?

The KTM 390 Adventure R is powered by the same 399cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine as the standard 390 Adventure. This motor produces 46hp at 8,500rpm and 39Nm of torque at 6,500rpm, mated to a 6-speed gearbox. The bike also comes standard with a bidirectional quickshifter.

What is the seat height of the KTM 390 Adventure R?

The KTM 390 Adventure R has a seat height of 880mm, which is notably taller than the standard 390 Adventure. This increased height is a result of the longer-travel suspension and is aimed at providing better ground clearance for serious off-road riding. While the tall seat will be challenging for shorter riders, it positions the R variant as a true off-road-focused machine in the line-up.

What is the ground clearance of the KTM 390 Adventure R?

The 390 Adventure R boasts an impressive ground clearance of 272mm. This increase in ground clearance, combined with the long-travel suspension, makes the R variant far more capable when tackling rough terrain, rocky trails and obstacles off-road.

What is the weight of the KTM 390 Adventure R?

The KTM 390 Adventure R weighs 183kg with a full tank of fuel. This makes it the heaviest in the line-up but just by 1kg over the standard 390 Adventure.

What suspension does the KTM 390 Adventure R use?

The 390 Adventure R features fully adjustable WP Apex suspension at both ends, with an impressive 230mm of travel front and rear. This is the same suspension setup as the 390 Enduro R export-spec model and represents a step up over the standard 390 Adventure, which offers 200mm of front travel and 205mm of rear travel.

What is the difference between the KTM 390 Adventure R and the 390 Adventure?

The primary differences between the two models lie in their suspension and wheel configuration. While the standard 390 Adventure runs a 21/17-inch wheel setup with tubeless Apollo Tramplr tyres, the 390 Adventure R uses a more off-road-focused 21/18-inch combination shod with tubed Mitas Enduro Trail tyres. The R variant offers 230mm suspension travel at both ends – more than the standard model’s 200mm/205mm setup.

What is the KTM 390 Adventure R price in India?

The KTM 390 Adventure R is priced at Rs 3.78 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). This makes it Rs 19,000 more affordable than the standard 390 Adventure, which costs Rs 3.97 lakh. The lower price is due to the R variant using conventional tubed tyres and spoke wheels, whereas the standard model comes with more expensive tubeless-compatible spoke wheels.
