The KTM 390 Adventure S is an adventure touring motorcycle powered by a 398.63cc engine that generates 46hp and 39Nm. Its upright riding position helps reduce rider fatigue on longer journeys. With 21-inch front and 17-inch rear tubeless spoke wheels, 237mm ground clearance, and WP Apex adjustable suspension make it easier to ride over broken roads, gravel tracks, and uneven terrain. This KTM bike features Cruise control and Quickshifter+ that make it suitable for highway rides by reducing rider effort during long journeys. However, with an 830mm seat height and 182kg kerb weight, the KTM 390 Adventure S is better suited to riders who are comfortable handling a tall adventure motorcycle.

KTM 390 Adventure S FAQs

KTM 390 Adventure has off-road ABS that allows experienced riders to slide into corners. Whenever you are riding on muddy trails, the traction control feature of the bike prevents the rear wheel from spinning excessively on low-grip surfaces.

The bike has an upright riding position, a wide handlebar, and good visibility, which help you stay comfortable and see over traffic. Its smooth clutch, ride-by-wire throttle, and Quickshifter+ also reduce rider effort during frequent gear changes. However, its 830mm seat height, 182kg kerb weight, and 21-inch front wheel mean it can feel larger and less nimble than other naked or commuter motorcycles on congested roads.

The bike has an 830mm seat height, which can make it difficult for riders with a shorter stature to place both feet flat on the ground when it is stationary. This can make balancing the bike in traffic, while parking, and during slow-speed manoeuvres more challenging for shorter riders.

I currently ride a Suzuki Gixxer SF 250 and have been very happy with it. However, I now feel it's time to upgrade to something that offers more performance while also being more comfortable for everyday use. I'm not a fan of highly committed sportbikes like the Yamaha R15, which has an aggressive riding stance. Most of my riding is within the city, including daily office commutes, with the occasional weekend ride. My average monthly running is around 1,000 km. My budget is Rs 5 lakh (on-road). I've shortlisted a few motorcycles. The KTM Adventure S appeals to me even though I don't ride off-road, mainly because an adventure tourer is versatile and comfortable. The Triumph Speed 400 is another option I'm considering. I was also looking forward to buying a Royal Enfield 650, but the absence of tubeless tyres is making me reconsider. Can you suggest which one I should pick, or is there a better option as well?

Since most of the riding will be in the city with occasional weekend trips, you are already leaning towards the adventure-touring segment; the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 is one of the best all-rounders in this price range, if you can manage its size and weight. The KTM 390 Adventure range is quick, engaging to ride and packed with useful features such as cruise control, cornering ABS, traction control and a quickshifter. It also handles exceptionally well on highways and twisty roads. That said, the engine is not as refined as some rivals, and the large windscreen can make slow-moving city traffic feel warmer. If off-road capability is not a priority, the Triumph Scrambler 400 models deserve serious consideration. It combines the commanding riding position of an ADV with the styling of a scrambler. The engine is refined, the handling is neutral and predictable and comfort over bad roads is good too.Among these, the Triumph Bike is the most affordable, while the KTM 390 Adventure S is the most expensive. The Himalayan 450 falls comfortably in between. One advantage of the Royal Enfield bikes is the strong riding community and touring culture that comes with the brand, which may appeal if you enjoy long-distance travel and group rides.Take a test ride and see which one suits you best before making your decision.

I am 50 years old, 6 feet tall, and weigh 75kg. Which bike would be suitable for long highway rides?

Depending on your budget, the answer to your question will vary widely. If you can stretch up to Rs 5 lakh, options like the KTM 390 Adventure S and Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 are our prime picks in the adventure tourer segment. They have punchy performance, good handling (KTM has the edge over RE here) and have enough comfort to tackle everything Indian roads can throw at you (RE is better here than KTM).If you want to stay below Rs 3 lakh, options like the TVS Apache RTX 300, Honda CB350 models, and Royal Enfield Classic/Bullet 350 should be the ones you take a test ride on. The RTX will feel faster and more capable, but the 350s have a different charm with their slow-revving motors and appealing design.Take test rides of all these machines before you make your decision.

Hey everyone! I have been riding my Dominar 400 regularly for about six years now. It is my daily go-to, with weekend short rides and occasional highway trips. I am thinking of upgrading sometime before the end of this year to something newer with a bigger engine. Please suggest a few motorcycles around the Rs 5 lakh mark.

Around that price point, you have two very different options. The first is the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650, which will have similar attributes to your Dominar in being a laidback, road-biased machine. The highlight here is the twin-cylinder engine, and this is one of the biggest reasons to get one. The Interceptor is a proven product, and since you are coming from a Dominar, you should be able to handle its weight and size without too much of a problem.Another option you could look at is the KTM 390 Adventure S, the top model with the adjustable suspension and tubeless spoke wheels. This bike will have a comparable engine character to your Dominar, but brings in added capability in terms of long-distance riding and venturing off-road.These are two very different machines, and picking between the two will not be straightforward. Take a thorough test ride of both to make an informed decision.
