Hey everyone! I have been riding my Dominar 400 regularly for about six years now. It is my daily go-to, with weekend short rides and occasional highway trips. I am thinking of upgrading sometime before the end of this year to something newer with a bigger engine. Please suggest a few motorcycles around the Rs 5 lakh mark.

Around that price point, you have two very different options. The first is the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650, which will have similar attributes to your Dominar in being a laidback, road-biased machine. The highlight here is the twin-cylinder engine, and this is one of the biggest reasons to get one. The Interceptor is a proven product, and since you are coming from a Dominar, you should be able to handle its weight and size without too much of a problem.

Another option you could look at is the KTM 390 Adventure S, the top model with the adjustable suspension and tubeless spoke wheels. This bike will have a comparable engine character to your Dominar, but brings in added capability in terms of long-distance riding and venturing off-road.

These are two very different machines, and picking between the two will not be straightforward. Take a thorough test ride of both to make an informed decision.

When will the RE Interceptor 650 facelift launch? I am waiting for the updated version. If so, can we expect a twin-front-rotor setup?

An updated Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 has been on the cards for quite some time, and yes, twin front disc brakes are quite likely to be part of the package. This setup has been spotted on quite a few test mules in the past and should likely improve the Inty's stopping performance - something that has been a point of contention for owners for many years now. RE is likely to focus its energies on the upcoming Himalayan 750, which is due to be launched at its MotoVerse festival, after which we could perhaps see this updated Interceptor launched.

I am a first-time motorcycle buyer looking for a bike in the Rs 2.0-2.5 lakh range. I am 5ft 3in, so I need something with a lower seat height and manageable weight for comfortable use. My usage will be around 80% in the city, with occasional 300-400 km highway trips. I have shortlisted the TVS Ronin, Yamaha XSR 155 and Royal Enfield Hunter 350. Which would be the most suitable option for me, and are there any other bikes I should consider at my height?

Your research is absolutely spot on, and the three options you have shortlisted will surely serve your intended purpose quite well. However, which one is right for you is a decision only you can make because all three are quite different to ride.The Yamaha XSR155 is the lightest and sportiest of this trio and will be faster than the other two. What it will not be is as comfortable as the relaxed Hunter and Ronin, which score quite highly in terms of overall comfort. These two have mellow, torque-rich engines which will make for an altogether different, more laid-back riding experience.Given the magnitude of difference between all three, deciding between them warrants a test ride.

I am a new learner and am planning to buy a two-wheeler in Pune. With so many options available, I am quite confused. I want something that is not too heavy and is smooth to ride, as I will be commuting 30-40 km every day. I also want a reliable engine that does not require frequent maintenance or servicing, as I plan to keep the vehicle for as long as possible. I am a first-time car buyer. Please suggest an SUV that is easy to drive for a new driver who is not very confident behind the wheel. I am looking for a car with very light steering for heavy traffic and parking, good ground clearance, a 360-degree camera, and a CVT transmission, as I feel CVTs are easier to drive in traffic. What about the Honda Elevate CVT? It offers good hood visibility and ground clearance, but I am not sure about its steering. I also feel it is a bit long, and it does not have a 360-degree camera. Could you suggest other options that would suit my needs? Are Hyundai and Kia IVTs better than CVTs? What about the Nissan Magnite CVT and Renault Kiger CVT? Would an EV be a better option? Overall, please suggest an automatic car that is easy to drive for someone who is not very confident behind the wheel. I would prefer a car that meets my requirements, but I am open to better suggestions as well.

For a first-time driver who is not very confident, the Nissan Magnite CVT and Renault Kiger CVT are the most natural fits, while the Honda Elevate CVT remains a good choice if the extra size is manageable. The Magnite and Kiger are compact, have light steering, good all-round visibility, around 205mm ground clearance and 360-degree cameras, making them particularly easy to place in tight traffic and parking spaces. The CVTs are also smooth and predictable, which is useful for a new driver. The Kia Seltos 1.5 IVT is another good option, and its IVT is essentially a CVT in operation, but the Seltos is larger and therefore not quite as unintimidating as the Magnite or Kiger. The Honda Elevate CVT has several advantages for a new driver, particularly its good bonnet visibility, upright driving position, 220mm ground clearance, light and predictable CVT and 5.2m turning circle. Its 4.3m length, however, will make tight parking slightly more challenging than in the Magnite or Kiger. The current Elevate's lack of a factory 360-degree camera is also a drawback, although the upcoming Elevate facelift is expected to get a 360-degree camera, which would make it a considerably better match for this requirement. An EV can be even easier in traffic because there is no gear changing and the response is very smooth, so the Punch EV is worth considering if home charging is available.

Which between a commuter bike (like Unicorn) and adventure bike (like Royal Enfield Himalayan 440) do you suggest primarily for daily office commute of approximately 60 km?

It would be unfair to both segments of bike to be pitted against each other because their intended purpose is very different. A commuter bike is an affordable, no-nonsense, comfortable, fuel efficient and reliable mode of transport but it isn't necessarily the best at any measurable metric nor is it going to be the most exciting. On the other hand, an adventure bike will bring in a lot of rough road and off-road capability and long distance touring too will be made easier. However, these are generally heavier and more expensive machines which aren't necessarily the best for your daily needs unless you live in an area with long stretches of bumpy, bouncy and shoddily-laden roads. We'd advise you to make your choice between both categories depending on what your preferences are.
