Kawasaki Versys-X 300 Expert Review
8.0
The Kawasaki Versys-X 300 continues with the same tall and slim ADV design, now offered in new colour options. It has good fit and finish, quality switchgear and neat panel gaps. However, the feature list feels dated. It misses out on a TFT display, ride modes, traction control and switchable ABS. The instrument cluster is basic but easy to read, and includes a fuel gauge, average fuel economy and distance-to-empty display.
7.0
The Versys-X 300 feels light, stable and confidence-inspiring on paved roads. It corners well and handles rough roads reasonably comfortably. However, the suspension struggles over larger bumps, and the soft front fork bottoms out during faster off-road riding. The ABS is intrusive, and the spoke wheels are not tubeless, reducing convenience on long trips.
6.0
The 296cc parallel-twin engine is refined but performs best at high revs. It starts feeling lively above 6,000rpm and is most enjoyable when ridden hard through its smooth 6-speed gearbox. The engine remains tractable in higher gears, but cruising at highway speeds keeps the engine spinning at relatively high revs. Fuel efficiency is 25kpl in the city and 27kpl on the highway. The large 17-litre fuel tank provides a touring range of around 400km.
8.0
The 815mm seat height is accessible for most riders, while the upright riding position makes long journeys comfortable. The seat is firm but supportive over long distances. However, the fixed windscreen creates noticeable wind buffeting for taller riders, and the narrow footpegs can become uncomfortable when riding while standing.
5.0
The motorcycle gets ABS, a basic digital-analogue instrument cluster and LED tail-light. However, it lacks modern features such as traction control, ride modes, switchable ABS and a TFT display, making it feel under-equipped for its segment.
7.0
The Versys-X 300 suits riders who want a reliable, high-revving parallel-twin and a comfortable road tourer. However, its dated features, limited off-road ability and strong competition make it less appealing than newer rivals.
