Triumph Trident 660 revealed, India launch next year

After teasing us with the prototype back in August 2020, Triumph has now revealed its upcoming entry-level, sport naked, the Trident 660 in its entirety.

• Uses a 660cc, inline-three-cylinder engine making 81hp/64Nm

• To be launched in India as a CKD next year

• Will be a direct rival to the Kawasaki Z650 in India

Triumph had revealed quite a bit of information about its Trident 660 last month. And now, the company has revealed almost everything there’s to know about the bike.

While it was known that the bike will use an inline-three, Triumph has now confirmed that it will be a 660cc unit making 81hp and 64Nm of torque. Interestingly, the British brand has said that the Trident’s engine has 67 new components, and it isn’t the same one found in the Street Triple S. The bike comes with a 6-speed gearbox and can also be optioned with an up and down quickshifter.

The Trident 660 gets an impressive service interval of 16,000km.

The new Trident features two riding modes (Road and Rain), adjustable traction control and ride-by-wire. It also has the option to completely disengage traction control in both modes. ABS, on the other hand, isn't switchable. The fully-digital instrument cluster displays all the information you would need and, if you get the accessory Bluetooth module, has the ability to provide turn-by-turn navigation, GoPro control and phone and music control.

The Trident also has slightly more relaxed ergonomics than the Street Triple models. Suspension, meanwhile, is handled by a Showa upside down separate function fork and preload-adjustable monoshock. As for the brakes, it uses a Nissin two-piston front caliper with twin 310mm discs, while the rear has a single-piston caliper. The tubular steel frame helps keep the kerb weight down to 189kg. Triumph has also confirmed that the bike will come equipped with Michelin Road 5 tyres.

Triumph has confirmed that the Trident will come to India as a CKD next year. The price of the bike hasn’t been revealed, but if the UK price (7,195 pounds) is anything to go by, we can expect it to be priced around Rs 7 lakh (ex-showroom). Internationally, the Trident has been designed to take on the Kawasaki Z650, Yamaha MT-07 and Honda CB650.
