Nearly two years ago, we were the first publication to bring you images of the Royal Enfield electric bike. After a long wait, the company has finally announced the date for its reveal: November 4.

  1. Teaser shows a bike floating down, suspended by a parachute
  2. Design patent of the RE EV shows a neo-retro design
  3. Flying Flea name is a strong likelihood

The teaser shared by company is quite interesting as it doesn’t show the bike at all. Instead, what is visible is a motorcycle gently floating down from the sky, suspended by a parachute. This might seem puzzling at first glance but allow me to jog your memory.

The Royal Enfield Flying Flea was a lightweight motorcycle developed as a means of transport that could be dropped by parachute onto the battlefields of WWII, quickly carrying messages between airborne and assault troops. Post war, it served as an inexpensive means of transportation. Taking that into account, Royal Enfield could brand the teased electric bike as the Flying Flea.

Royal Enfield is a company steeped in history, and despite this being a break from the traditional motorcycle powertrain, the company will likely want to establish the new bike’s lineage and connect it to the original article in typical RE fashion

The brand holds the trademark rights to the Flying Flea name in India, which is another reason why this name for the upcoming EV is a strong likelihood. A few months ago, we also uncovered the design patent for an electric bike filed by RE. To read more about what we discovered, tap HERE.
