The moniker ‘Royal Enfield Constellation’ has been trademarked by RE, hinting that it could be the name of one of Royal Enfield’s upcoming models. Manufacturers usually only trademark the model name by itself, but the standalone nametag ‘Constellation’ has already been trademarked by Royal Enfield’s parent company Eicher Motors in 2005.

Coming to the story behind the name, Constellation was a badge carried by a 693cc, twin-cylinder Royal Enfield motorcycle produced in the 1950s. It was based on the Super Meteor, which is another nametag that RE is expected to revive in the near future, most likely for one of its upcoming 650cc models.

This historical connection between the two names suggests that the Constellation badge will also most likely be used for one of the upcoming 650cc models, of which there seem to be at least three. There is a true-blue cruiser model with a low seat, swept-back handlebars and forward-set foot pegs, as well as a bike with more upright ergonomics and mid-set foot pegs that has been spotted in two levels of trim. One version gets alloy wheels and an upside-down fork, while the other is equipped with wire-spoke wheels and a conventional fork.

Interestingly, this latest trademark applies to quite a large range of areas, with everything from motorcycles to scooters to electric motorcycles, motorcycle saddles, mudguards, wheels and handlebar grips. So perhaps, the name could also pertain to a line of accessories. Time will tell.
