The Hero Mavrick 440 has been spotted testing during what appears to be a TVC shoot, revealing a few key details that distinguish it from the model previously on sale in India, hinting at an imminent update.

  1. Hero Mavrick 440 spied during TVC shoot
  2. Likely to get a new matte grey paint scheme
  3. Will get a golden USD fork

Hero Mavrick likely to return soon

Updated Mavrick could sport a bronze/copper engine cover

For starters, not much can be made out from the spy videos, as they have been shot from quite a distance. The Mavrick can be seen being set up for a TVC shoot, but with two notable differences – a golden USD fork that appears similar to the unit seen on the Mavrick 440 showcased at EICMA 2024 and a brushed bronze/copper engine cover that was earlier black. The model showcased at EICMA also featured a TFT display borrowed from the Harley-Davidson X440. However, owing to the distance in these spy shots, it is unclear whether this particular test unit sports the same TFT dash.

Nonetheless, the motorcycle in the video seems to mirror the EICMA 2024 model in terms of paint scheme, featuring a grey finish, albeit matte, unlike the flat, glossy grey finish seen earlier.

Recently, Hero MotoCorp delisted the Mavrick 440 from its website due to poor sales. The Mavrick 440, on sale for less than 18 months, was Hero’s version of the motorcycle built on the X440 platform that it jointly engineered with Harley-Davidson. While the Mavrick was intended to be positioned significantly lower than the Harley, Hero deliberately omitted a few premium features to achieve that price point. Unfortunately, this strategy backfired, becoming the Mavrick’s Achilles heel.

The model’s relatively slender telescopic fork diluted its visual heft, making it appear more like a large commuter than a 400cc roadster. Moreover, the absence of a TFT dash – a feature present on the costlier Harley-Davidson X440 – further reduced its perceived value.

Besides the differences mentioned earlier, the Mavrick seems largely unchanged in its latest avatar, and it remains uncertain whether Hero has made any updates beneath the surface. In its most recent production form, the Mavrick 440 was powered by a 440cc air-/oil-cooled single-cylinder engine producing 27hp and 36Nm of torque, mated to a six-speed gearbox.
