Ather Energy used its Community Day 2025 to reveal the EL01 concept, the very first scooter to be built on its all-new EL platform. More than just a single model, the EL platform marks a major pivot for the Bengaluru-based EV maker, laying the groundwork for an entire family of scooters that will be modular, scalable and cost-optimised.

  1. Ather EL platform products will be manufactured in new Aurangabad factory
  2. New platform will be modular and scalable

EL platform details

This platform has been developed using over 26 lakh kilometres of field data and he EL platform is designed to be modular enough to underpin scooters of different sizes and use cases. It debuts a unibody steel chassis that not only improves durability but also simplifies manufacturing, with Ather claiming 15 percent faster assembly.  Additionally, the company claims maintenance will also be easier and cheaper, with service intervals doubled to 10,000km and periodic services up to twice as quick thanks to simpler components and reduced brake wear.

The new architecture also adopts a swingarm-mounted motor instead of a belt-driven setup, paired with a front disc brake, monoshock suspension and a centre stand. Manufacturing of EL-based scooters will take place at Ather’s upcoming Factory 3.0 in Aurangabad (Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar).

Ather’s EL01 concept

Although exact specifications have not yet been revealed, Ather confirmed that it will debut its first scooter based on this platform around the festive season next year and will coexist with the current 450 and Rizta models, rather than replacing them. While Ather showcased the EL01 concept, there is no confirmation if their first product based on this platform will go by that name. Additionally, the flexibility of the EL platform means the first to feature could be one of several scooters with distinct design directions.

Ather showcased three possibilities: a maxi-style scooter with 14-inch wheels and a large 5kWh battery for longer range; a sportier option with 12-inch wheels, a sharper subframe and a compact 2kWh battery; and a family-oriented scooter with plusher suspension, a wider seat, longer wheelbase and support for advanced rider assistance systems. Which of these directions the ‘EL’ range will eventually take remains to be seen, but Ather says the platform is versatile enough to accommodate all.

New safety and hardware features

The EL platform debuts Ather’s new Advanced Electronic Braking System (AEBS), designed to reduce stopping distances and minimise rear-wheel lockups. While not a substitute for ABS, AEBS can coexist with it in future iterations.

Also new is the Charge Drive Controller, which integrates the onboard charger with the motor controller. This removes the need for bulky portable chargers and frees up boot space, making the scooter more convenient for everyday use.

What to expect?

With this new platform, Ather is clearly positioning itself for broader market coverage than before, using a single platform to deliver scooters suited to sporty riders, commuters and families alike. The EL01 will be the first of several scooters on this new foundation, and with production set to ramp up at the new Aurangabad facility, Ather is preparing to scale its next generation of products faster than ever before and the first of their kind should break cover next year.
