Having been spied numerous times and with the official teaser released a few days ago, TVS has finally launched its new Apache RR 310 at Rs 2.05 lakh (ex-showroom). The KTM RC 390 rival is the brand’s new flagship and it shares more than just the engine with the BMW G 310 R.
Powering the RR 310 is a 312.2cc, single-cylinder, DOHC motor that makes 34hp at 9,700rpm and 27.3Nm at 7,700rpm. The engine is mated to a six-speed gearbox.
In terms of design, the RR 310 retains the Akula concept’s silhouette but is less aggressively styled. The bi-LED projector headlight is integrated into the front fairing which gets a blacked-out beak. There's also tricolour detailing at the front which doesn’t look out of place. TVS claims the design is functional having undergone 300 hours worth of wind tunnel testing.
With a wheelbase of 1,365mm and a ride height of 810mm, the riding position isn’t as demanding as it is made out to be. Suspension duties are carried out by a 41mm KYB USD fork and a preload-adjustable monoshock, while braking power is provided by 300mm petal discs at the front and 240mm discs at the rear. Dual-channel ABS comes as standard. The Apache RR 310’s 17-inch front and rear wheels are shod with 110/70 and 150/60 Michelin Pilot Street tyres.
In a bid to provide the sports bike with a track-day tool image, TVS has equipped the instrument cluster to display average speed, 0-60kph timings and a Lap Timer mode that can be toggled on the move by pressing the headlight pass switch.
The bike will challenge the KTM RC 390 (Rs 2.61 lakh, on-road, Delhi) while undercutting the likes of the Kawasaki Ninja 300 (Rs 4.09 lakh). In terms of pricing, rivals to the TVS Apache RR 310 include the Mahindra Mojo (Rs 1.91 lakh), Bajaj Dominar 400 (Rs 1.60 lakh) and KTM 250 Duke (Rs 1.96 lakh).
