Triumph India launched its flagship adventure-tourer offering in India today. The 2018 Triumph Tiger 1200 XCx has been priced at Rs 17 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
The updated Tiger 1200 was unveiled at the 2017 EICMA motorcycle show and it had dropped the ‘Explorer’ moniker seen on the older bike. In international markets, the 2018 Tiger range is offered in six variants, of which we only get the 1200 XCx variant in India.
In terms of styling, the new Tiger 1200 looks almost identical to its predecessor. There are subtle changes, though, like the slightly different fairing design and metallised tank badge. The major distinguishing elements of the new XCx are the LED headlight and LED DRLs.
Replacing the semi-analogue instrument console is a more modern-looking and compact 5.0-inch TFT screen. The backlit switchgear has been carried forward from the new Tiger 800 and features a five-way joystick, which makes toggling through the various ride modes and other settings a breeze. Other goodies on the bike include keyless ignition, an electronically adjustable windscreen and cruise control.
Mechanically, the 1,215cc, triple-cylinder motor produces 2hp more power than its predecessor, now making 141hp and 122Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a six-speed gearbox and power is transmitted to the rear wheel via shaft drive. At 248kg (dry weight), the 1200 XCx variant is also lighter than the bike it replaces by 5kg. Talking about electronic aids, the new Tiger 1200 XCx features traction control, cornering ABS and five riding modes – Off-Road Pro, Road, Rain, Off-Road and Sport. Standard saddle height is 855mm but it can be manually reduced by 20mm.
The bike also comes with revised handlebar geometry that makes its seating position more upright. The bike has also been equipped with Triumph Semi Active Suspension (TSAS) that has a 48mm inverted WP fork up front (190mm travel) and a WP rear monoshock (193mm travel). The 1200 XCx runs on 32-spoke aluminium wheels (19-inch front and 17-inch rear) which are fitted with Metzeler Tourance tubeless tyres. Braking package consists of – 305mm, radial-mounted twin-disc with four-piston Brembo monobloc callipers; and a 282mm single disc with a Nissin 2-piston calliper at the back.
The 2018 Triumph Tiger 1200 XCx will compete against the BMW R1200GS Adventure and the Ducati Multistrada 1200 Enduro.
