The new long wheelbase variant is priced at Rs 61.99 lakh, and it packs more range and performance.

Tesla has widened its Model Y lineup in India by introducing a long-wheelbase variant for the crossover. Called the Model Y L, the new variant offers more range and seating capacity compared to the standard-wheelbase counterparts, and it also adds a front-wheel-drive motor to enable AWD. Here, we compare the Model Y L with the standard Model Y versions on those points, along with features and price.

Tesla India does not categorically list out specs such as battery size, power and torque figures. For this comparison, we have referred to the Australia-spec version where necessary, as it is also right-hand drive. For exact details, it's best to check with the nearest Tesla showroom.

**Australia-spec Model Y L.

Both the 84.2kWh-Model Y Long Range and the 88.2kWh-Model Y L support a maximum charging speed of 250kW. The former's larger battery pack allows for a 681km range, 20km more than the Long Range version, and even manages more range on a 15-minute range top-up. Performance from a standstill is stronger too, with the Model Y L hitting the 100kph mark in 5 seconds, slightly quicker than the Long Range's 5.6 seconds.

At the other end of the lineup, the standard Model Y RWD has the smallest battery here at 63kWh, leading to the relatively lowest single-charge range of 500km here. Also, it has the slowest 0-100kph time at 5.9 seconds, and supports a maximum charging speed of 175kW.

Tesla claims it has updated the suspension system for this long wheelbase version, and it comes with adaptive suspension and electronic damping shocks. It is also offering a standard 4-year or 80,000km warranty on the Model Y. The battery and drive unit are covered for 8 years or 1,92,000km.

The list of common features also includes powered, heated and ventilated front seats, ambient lights, powered front and rear AC vents, a panoramic glass roof, heated steering wheel and windshield, dashcam and eight cameras.

The Model Y L adds a few more comfort features over the standard wheelbase versions. It gets an upgraded sound system with 18 speakers and a subwoofer, compared with the 9-speaker setup in the standard and Long Range variants. The front seats also get thigh support extensions. As a six-seater, the Model Y L uses captain seats in the second row, which gets electric armrests, one-touch folding, ventilation and heating. The third row also gets powered recline, one-touch folding and dedicated AC vents.

In India's premium EV space, the Model Y takes on rivals like the BYD Sealion 7 (Rs 49.40-54.90 lakh), BMW iX1 LWB (Rs 51.40 lakh), Kia EV6 (Rs 65.96 lakh), Volvo EC40 (Rs 59 lakh) and the Mini Countryman Electric (Rs 55.65-60.7 lakh).
