I have been driving a Honda Jazz Automatic for the last seven years. I am 6 feet tall and now want to buy a new compact SUV such as the Honda Elevate, Hyundai Creta, Skoda Kushaq, Grand Vitara, Brezza, or Taigun. Please advise which of these offers the best driver legroom so my knees are not strained. I am a retired 69-year-old.

The Honda Elevate would be a great upgrade based on your requirements. It has a spacious pedal box and a wide range of adjustment for the driver’s seat, which makes it comfortable even for taller drivers. It will also feel familiar, as it uses a CVT transmission similar to the Jazz you are used to driving. The engine and gearbox combination is smooth, making the Elevate easy and stress-free to drive. This Honda car also offers a comfortable ride quality, good cabin space and a large boot, making it a well-rounded package.
In the case of the Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun, their updates are expected soon. Also, while their turbo petrol engines are punchy, they are not as smooth in everyday driving as the Elevate’s naturally aspirated engine paired with the CVT.
The Hyundai Creta CVT would have been a good option too, but its centre console tends to intrude and can brush against the left knee, especially if you are a tall driver.

Pick the Kia Seltos IVT. Its refined 115hp, 1.5-litre petrol engine and the smooth CVT automatic makes it ideal for Bangalore traffic. It has enough power for your outstation drives on ghats. The Seltos also has a more premium and quieter cabin compared to the Elevate, it has more features and its a larger SUV too, so it's better suited for families. The Kia's ride is also comfortable, be it in the city or out on the highway. The Elevate CVT will be more affordable to buy and you'll also appreciate the peace of mind associated with Honda ownership. But as a package, it isn't as rounded as the Seltos. So for your use case, the Seltos IVT is the one to go for.

Buy an EV if you have a parking spot with a plug, because your 20-30 km daily run is exactly what EVs are best at. You will top up at home once or twice a week, spend far less than petrol, and enjoy a quiet, easy drive in traffic. Since you rarely go out of town, the odd highway trip can be planned around chargers, or you can just borrow or rent a petrol car when needed. In your budget, Tata Punch EV and Tata Nexon EV fit well.If home charging is not possible, buy a simple petrol automatic and skip hybrids. With your low running, the hybrid premium takes ages to recover, and most strong-hybrid trims that make sense cross Rs. 20 lakh on-road. Good petrol picks around Rs. 15-18 lakh are Honda Elevate, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq or VW Taigun. They will be easy in the city and stress-free for the rare road trip.

I am planning to buy the MG Hector Smart Pro Manual. However, I am concerned because the MG Hector's monthly sales has been declining. Please advise me on choosing between the Hyundai Creta and the MG Hector.

The recent sales decline is more a reflection of increased competition and the age of the product rather than any fundamental issue with the car itself. MG has also been consistent with updates and feature additions, which helps keep the Hector relevant.The Hyundai Creta is the more modern product with a wider engine line-up and a stronger brand pull, but it is also significantly more expensive for a similarly equipped variant. The Hector offers better value for money, especially in the mid-spec variants, and remains a very comfortable and practical family SUV.The only real drawback with the Hector is that it is a larger car and not as easy to manoeuvre in tight city conditions as the Creta. If your usage is predominantly urban and parking is a concern, the Creta is the better choice. Otherwise, the Hector remains a solid buy and the sales numbers should not be a deterrent.

Toyota's reputation for reliability and aftersales support is second to none, and if long-term peace of mind is your top priority, it remains a very sensible choice. However, the non-hybrid petrol doesn't offer a significant efficiency advantage over the Seltos, so you miss out on the biggest reason to buy a Hyryder in the first place.Given your low running, we'd simply choose the SUV that you enjoy driving and living with every day. The Seltos also feels a little more modern inside and delivers a better overall ownership experience without asking you to compromise on reliability.

Hi, I am planning to buy an EV car between 10 and 15 lakh. I already have a Baleno, so I am looking for a second car. I am confused between the new Tiago EV, Punch EV and 3XO EV, which is slightly above my budget. I will be driving around 100 km daily. Please share your suggestion.

For a 100 km daily run as a second car, its bigger battery gives you a safer buffer than the Tiago EV, and the higher ground clearance makes bad roads, speed breakers and monsoons less stressful.If you have parking with a 15A socket, the Punch EV’s mid-battery version will comfortably handle your commute with overnight top-ups and still leave range in hand for errands.Go Tiago EV only if the price is tight and you’re disciplined about charging daily. It’s easy to drive and cheap to run, but 100 km days will leave a thin cushion once you add AC, traffic and battery ageing.

Please suggest a car between the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos in a budget of 16-18 L?

Go for the Kia Seltos. While they are both similar SUVs that use the same engines, the Seltos is a larger vehicle built on a newer platform. It thus offers better space and comfort, as well as new-generation tech, which the Creta will only get when its next-gen model is launched in 2027. It also has a higher-quality interior with better fit and finish. Depending on the engine, gearbox and variant you choose, you may find a few more features in the equivalent Creta compared to the Seltos, but overall value for money, the Seltos should still come out on top, considering its inherent benefits. That said, some reasons you might want to opt for the Creta is because you already own a Hyundai and are already in their system, and have an established relationship with the service centre. Also, if you are planning to exchange your i20, ask the dealer for a loyalty bonus or any other deal they might have; this could swing the purchase in favour of the Creta.
