I want to buy either the Tata Nexon Diesel or the Tata Punch. Which one is better for driving in the hills? Please suggest.

We would recommend the Tata Nexon Diesel over the Punch if you regularly drive in the hills. The diesel engine's strong low end torque makes climbing steep inclines much easier, especially with a full load of passengers or luggage. It also requires fewer gear changes on winding roads and feels much more relaxed than the Punch's naturally aspirated petrol engine.

The Nexon is also the better all round vehicle. It has a more planted feel at highway speeds, a larger cabin, a bigger boot and better long distance comfort. If your hill trips are frequent or you live in a hilly area, the diesel suits this usage very well. Just ensure you also undertake regular longer drives, as modern diesels are happiest when they get enough running to keep the emissions system healthy.

The Punch is a good choice if your driving is almost entirely in the city and you want a smaller, easier to park SUV. However, for hill driving, especially with family or luggage, it can feel underpowered compared to the Nexon diesel.

Don't go with Tata Cars. Very poor service and part failures are very high. And breakdown issues are very high. I have a Tata Nexon 2022 Model, suffering from very long service times. Even after multiple escalations not solution was given yet .

Go for the Maruti Suzuki Brezza VXI Turbo. Your usage is mostly weekend city driving with occasional highway trips, and in that scenario, the Brezza is the more sensible long-term choice. The 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine is punchy enough for city use and overtakes on the highway, while Maruti’s service network, lower maintenance costs and proven reliability make ownership far easier over the years. The Brezza also feels like a more substantial car, with better space and a more mature ride, which you will appreciate on longer drives.The Tata Punch 1.2 Adventure AMT does offer more features for the price, but the engine-AMT gearbox combination is slow, which won't feel as effortless to drive as the Brezza Turbo in hilly regions around Guwahati. Yes, with the Brezza Turbo, you only get a manual transmission, but unless having a clutch-free experience is an absolute must-have, get the Brezza.

It is the most refined car here, has a smooth four cylinder petrol engine, is easy to drive in city traffic and comes with a comfortable ride. Hyundai's extensive service network and hassle free ownership experience are added advantages, especially if this is going to be your long term family car.The Tata Punch AMT is the next best option if safety is your absolute top priority. It feels more robust, has higher ground clearance and is better suited to rough roads, although the AMT isn't as smooth as the Exter's and Tata's service experience can vary from city to city.

I am confused between the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios Sportz AMT, Maruti Suzuki Swift AMT, and Tata Tiago Pure+ AMT. The AMT is one of the smoother units in the segment, making it a confidence-inspiring choice for a new driver. This Hyundai car isn't as good as the Swift when it comes to ride comfort and even rear seat space. The Tata Tiago AMT is the value pick, but the cabin and overall refinement are not at the same level. That said, if you want a slightly larger and more premium feeling car, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno AMT is also worth considering, but it will stretch the budget. If you don't want to stretch the Swift is the most well-rounded and easiest car to live with in this range.

Go for the Volkswagen Taigun 1.5 TSI Sport. Coming from a Polo and Vento automatic, you already appreciate Volkswagen’s driving DNA, and the Taigun 1.5 TSI is a natural progression. The engine is punchy, the DSG gearbox is quick and engaging, and the overall driving experience is far more involving than the Seltos. The Taigun also feels more compact and agile in the city, while still being comfortable on the highway. The Volkswagen Taigun mileage is 19.54 kpl for the 1.0 TSI AT, 19.98 kpl for the 1.0 TSI MT, and 18.85 kpl for the 1.5 TSI DCT.The Kia Seltos diesel X-Line is a strong all-rounder with better space, a more premium cabin and a more relaxed long-distance character, but it does not offer the same level of driver engagement. The diesel engine is efficient and torquey, but it lacks the excitement of the 1.5 TSI. With 5,000-7,000 km a year and mostly city driving, you are the ideal EV buyer. The Mahindra XEV 9S in its top-spec Pack Three guise will comfortably fit in your budget. With a 79kWh battery pack, you can easily expect a real-world range of around 480km in daily driving conditions. The 9S is also a full-size SUV with three rows, so practicality is excellent.
