Levitas Cup debuts at JKNRC Round 2

Anish D Shetty continued his victory streak in the Royal Enfield Continental GT Cup.

The 2025 edition of the JK Tyre National Racing Championship (JKNRC) resumed action with Round 2 held at Coimbatore’s Kari Motor Speedway. The Levitas Cup, featuring identically prepared Maruti Ignis race cars, finally made its race debut at this round.

The new one-make series aims to bridge the gap between entry-level karting and top-level professional racing at a more affordable price. Mira Erda and Jai Prashanth Venkat emerged as the star racers in the opening round, winning two races each in the Gentlemen’s category.

After a strong Round 1 earlier this year, both Anish D Shetty and Bhuvan Bonu continued their victory streak in the Royal Enfield Continental GT Cup and JK Tyre Novice Cup, respectively.

Levitas Cup

The Levitas Cup grid is divided into two classes. The Rookie class is reserved for those who haven’t secured a podium finish in a national car championship. The Gentlemen’s class, meanwhile, is for the more experienced racers.

Round 1 of the championship saw the race-spec Ignis cars complete their first official shakedown before racing action kicked off in Round 2. Competing as a guest racer during the weekend, Erda finished on the podium in all four races in the Gentlemen’s class, winning two of those. Venkat won the other two races in the class.

The Rookie class had four different winners, with Nihal Singh, Ashwin Pugalagiri, Dipayan Dutta and Balaji Raju taking top honours.

At the opening round in August, Anish D Shetty took a clean sweep in the Royal Enfield Continental GT Cup’s Professionals class. He followed that up with two back-to-back wins in Round 2 as well. But Navaneeth Kumar denied him another clean sweep, beating Shetty to the chequered flag by just 0.02 sec.

Bryan Nicholas scored two wins in the Amateurs class, while Johring Warisa won the third race.
