Ferrari has unveiled its 2024 F1 challenger – the SF-24 – as the team chases its first F1 title since 2008. Chassis technical director Enrico Cardile says the SF-24 follows its predecessor’s development direction, but “every area of the car has been redesigned”.

    Ferrari SF-24: What’s new

The SF-23 was the only non-Red Bull car to win a race last year, thanks to Carlos Sainz’s Singapore GP triumph. And while the car proved to be quick over a single lap, Ferrari struggled to convert that pace into consistent race results.

The Italian team did make some gains towards the end of 2023 and is hoping to further build in that direction. The SF-24 will also be the very first Ferrari that Team Principal Frederic Vasseur (who joined in January 2023) has overseen the development of. “This year, we must start off where we left off at the end of last season, when we were consistent front runners, with a view to constantly improving in all areas,” said Vasseur.

“The longest ever Formula 1 season awaits us and Charles, Carlos and I all agree, we must be more clinical and effective in how we manage the races, making bold choices, in order to get the best possible result at every Grand Prix.”

The car now sports a revised sidepod design, along with other tweaks. Cardile added, “We have taken on board what the drivers told us and turned those ideas into engineering reality, with the aim of giving them a car that’s easier to drive and therefore easier to get the most out of and push it to its limits.”

The 2024 race car sports a familiar red shade, with yellow and white stripes. The addition of yellow is a nod to the Scuderia’s home city of Modena, as well as its World Endurance Championship racer. The last time a Ferrari F1 car featured yellow longitudinal stripes was back in 1968.

Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz will continue to drive for Ferrari this year. However, this will be Sainz’s last season with the team, with Lewis Hamilton confirming a shock move from Mercedes to Ferrari in 2025. The seven-time F1 world champion has signed a multi-year contract with the Italian squad.

Pre-season testing gets underway in Bahrain on February 21-23 before the season kicks off at the same venue on February 29-March 2. We’ve already seen Red Bull and Aston Martin reveal their 2024 F1 racers this week. Mercedes and McLaren will showcase their new challengers on February 14, followed by Red Bull on February 15.
