2025 MotoGP: Marc Marquez dominates Aragon GP

Ducati's Marc Marquez returned to his winning ways at the Aragon GP. The Spaniard dominated every single session of this past weekend and won both, the Sprint and full-length races at Aragon - the track where he scored his first victory with Ducati last year.

Victorious in both races, Marc extends championship lead

While Marc made the perfect start and stayed in top position in the main race, winning with a comfortable 1.107 sec buffer to next rider, younger brother Alex, the Sprint race victory was one he had to work for a little more. The Sprint race’s start saw Marc experience some wheelspin and he dropped down to third place, in the process rubbing some leather and metal with factory KTM rider, Pedro Acosta. However, in just a few laps, Marc was immediately able to put daylight between himself and the rest of the pack and he then checked out like he usually does in situations like these. With the dominant weekend he had, his lead over brother Alex is now a comfortable 32 points.

Bagnaia finishes third in the main race, technical change helps him regain confidence

While Marc Marquez’ form has been largely dominant over the course of the season so far, his teammate, Francesco Bagnaia has been struggling to adapt to the GP25 Ducati. The main issue that the two-time World Champion reported is that he was unable to get the same feeling from the front end as the GP24. While he qualified in fourth place, his Sprint race was a horror show as he ultimately finished in 12th place, well outside the points for the half-distance race. 

But the weekend wasn’t all doom-and-gloom for Bagnaia as a technical change on Sunday morning restored some confidence in the Italian. While Bagnaia wasn’t quite able to match Alex Marquez, he didn’t trail off as the race went on, like he did in the Sprint and ultimately did hang on to finish on the podium. Reportedly, the change that helped Bagnaia was a switch to larger front brake discs, which gave him more confidence to push the bike in the braking zones.

With his back-to-back wins on Saturday and Sunday, Marc’s lead over brother Alex is now a significant 32 points. Bagnaia’s deficit to Marquez is 93 points, and he is in fact closer to fourth placed Morbidelli in the championship standings than to second-placed Alex. The next round will be held on the weekend of June 20-22 at the Mugello circuit in Italy.
