The Mahindra Thar Roxx is now contributing more to the overall Thar brand than the original 3-door SUV. In the second half of FY2025, the 5-door model had a 45 percent share of the Thar brand’s domestic market sales, meaning less than one in two Thar SUVs sold was the 5-door. In the April-June 2025 period, Mahindra despatched 20,726 Thar Roxx SUVs, compared to 9,908 Thars, which means the 5-door now has a 68 percent share of the brand.
- Mahindra Thar 3-door sales nearly halved in Q1 FY2026
- Thar Roxx’s wholesale sales since launch are 59,316 units
Mahindra Thar Roxx sales performance
Mahindra Thar 3-door sales down 43 percent YoY in April-June 2025
The second-generation Thar was launched in October 2020, and it sold quite well initially. The 5-door Thar arrived in August 2024 – prices for the Roxx 4x4 versions came in September – and since then, the larger SUV has been eating into the 3-door model’s share. Sales of the Thar 3-door are down 43 percent in Q1 FY2026 compared to last year’s 17,286 units. Considering the Thar Roxx is more practical than the 3-door model, it isn’t all that surprising. In fact, Mahindra had foreseen demand for the Thar Roxx and instituted a 70:30 production split in favour of the 5-door SUV back in February.
Thar brand is Mahindra’s second bestselling in Q1 FY2026
In FY2025, Mahindra’s bestselling SUVs were the Scorpio twins (1,64,842 units), 3X0 (1,00,905 units), Bolero (94,750 units), XUV700 (93,082 units) and the Thar / Thar Roxx (84,834 units). However, Thar Roxx’s continuing stellar market performance has helped it drive the Thar brand up to No. 2 in Q1 FY2026. In the April-June 2025 period, the Thar Roxx and Thar had combined wholesales of 30,634 units. The Scorpio N/Classic continue in first place (42,675 units), while the Bolero (24,800 units), XUV 3XO (22,609 units) and XUV700 (19,444 units) follow. Mahindra’s two new electric SUVs – the BE 6 and XEV 9e (11,023 units) – are sixth in the model line-up.
As a result of the Thar brand’s strong performance, its share of Mahindra’s SUV sales has also risen substantially. In Q1 FY2026, the two Thars have a 20 percent share of the total 1,52,057 Mahindra SUVs sold, as compared to 14 percent in Q1 FY2025.
