Go for the Skoda Slavia 1.5 TSI DSG. You will appreciate the 1.5 TSI's strong mid-range punch and the way it pulls on the highway. Since you live in a tier 2 city with minimal stop-and-go traffic and do frequent highway runs, the DSG should not be a major concern over a 7-8 year ownership period. The 1.5 Slavia also offers a more engaging driving experience than the 1.0 TSI, with noticeably stronger performance and less turbo lag once you are on the move.The Renault Duster/Tekton twins are genuinely good to drive, with excellent ride quality and strong dynamics, but they aren't as involving to drive or as agile as the Slavia. For your 70 percent city and 30 percent highway usage, the Skoda Kylaq is the best fit of the cars you have shortlisted. Its 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine with a 6-speed torque-converter automatic is smoother in city traffic than the Sonet's DCT, while also giving you stronger performance for highway trips. It also has a good balance of ride comfort, cabin space and driving dynamics.The Kia Seltos is the better choice if family space and a more premium cabin are your priorities, but at your budget you will be looking at the lower variants. The Sonet HTK(O) 1.0 DCT is feature-rich, but the DCT is not our first choice for predominantly city use. The Tata Nexon and Mahindra XUV 3XO are also worth considering, but the Kylaq offers a particularly good combination of refinement, performance and highway ability.As for the Kia New Sonet, it is expected in 2027 and will move to the K1 platform, with improved rear-seat space and potentially more features. The Renault Duster actually sounds like a very good fit for your requirements. With just 700–800km of monthly running and occasional long drives, there is little reason to choose a diesel, and the 1.3-litre turbo-petrol gives you plenty of performance for both city use and highway trips. The Duster’s biggest strengths are its excellent balance of ride comfort and driving dynamics, along with 212mm of ground clearance.The 1.3 DCT is also a particularly good combination. It uses a wet-clutch DCT, and the gearbox is smooth enough in everyday driving while the engine provides strong performance when you are out on the highway.The only reservation is long-term ownership. This is a new-generation Duster, so there simply isn't enough 8 to 10 year Indian ownership data yet. The DCT is also mechanically more complex than a conventional torque converter, and Renault's service reach isn't as strong as Hyundai, Kia or Maruti.If you want alternatives, the Kia Seltos 1.5 IVT is the more conservative long-term choice, while the Skoda Kushaq 1.0 AT is worth considering if driving enjoyment is important.
