I am looking for a mid-size SUV in the Rs 15-16 lakh range. I have narrowed my list down to the new Duster 1.3 Turbo Techno+ and the Hyundai Creta 1.5 NA S(O). I really like the Creta's interior, but I am concerned that since Kia has already launched the new-generation Seltos, the new-generation Creta may not be far away. My daily running is approximately 80km, mostly on the highway, with some city driving. Please suggest which would be the better buy.

With an 80km daily run, mostly on the highway, the priority should be a car that is comfortable over long distances, stable at speed and easy to live with. The Duster 1.3 Turbo Techno+ is the better fit here. The Renault Duster’s ride quality is genuinely excellent, soaking up bad roads and undulations in a way few cars in this price range can. It also feels planted and confidence-inspiring at highway speeds, which makes long daily commutes far less tiring. The 1.3 turbo petrol engine is punchy and well-suited to highway driving, giving you strong overtaking performance when you need it. Moreover, the Techno+ variant represents excellent value in this price range, especially for your needs. The Hyundai Creta 1.5 NA S(O) is a very good car, but the naturally aspirated engine is not as strong on the highway, especially when fully loaded. You're right about the new generation; Kia has already launched the new Seltos, and Hyundai is expected to bring the next-generation Creta to India in early 2027. That said, the current Creta is still a very competent product, and Hyundai’s ownership experience and service network are strong.Given your usage, the Duster’s ride comfort, highway stability and stronger engine make it the better buy.

I used to own a manual Ford EcoSport Trend Petrol model manual which I drove for 7 years. But as the service centre in Guwahati shut down recently, and also due to the lack of readily available spare parts, I was compelled to sell it. Recently, I had booked a Renault Duster Adventure 1.3L DCT and might get the vehicle delivered within a week. I have also taken the test drive and liked the power and comfort. But my concern comes from the fact that the sales figures have gone down from 512 units in July 2026 to zero in August 2026. So will it right to go ahead with the Duster, seeing their sales figures going down? As an alternative, I am looking for the Mahindra XUV 3XO AX7 turbo Petrol TC. My budget is within Rs. 17.50 lakhs.

Go ahead with the Renault Duster 1.3 DCT. It is a genuinely good product, and the 1.3 turbo petrol paired with the DCT is a strong, enjoyable powertrain. The Duster is also one of the few cars in the segment that genuinely stands out for its ride comfort and driving dynamics, which is exactly what you liked during your test drive. The Mahindra XUV 3XO AX7 Turbo Petrol AT is a very good alternative, but it is a different proposition. The 3XO is a modern product with a rich feature list, but it does not offer the same level of driving engagement or ride comfort as the Duster. The Duster is the better driver's car, and if that is what you are looking for, it is the right choice. The only thing to check is Renault's service network in Guwahati. Make sure there is a reliable service centre nearby, as that was the reason you sold your EcoSport in the first place. If Renault's service network is strong in your area, go ahead with the Duster. If not, the 3XO is the safer ownership proposition.

I am a driving enthusiast and am looking to buy my first car. My priorities are driving experience, safety, and features. I am currently confused between the Volkswagen Taigun Highline Plus 1.0 MT and the Duster Evolution 1.3 MT. Which one should I choose?

Verified

Go for the Volkswagen Taigun Highline Plus 1.0 MT. As a first car, it strikes a better balance between driving enjoyment, safety, and features. The 1.0 TSI is a punchy, characterful engine with a strong mid-range, and the manual gearbox is slick and satisfying to use. This Volkswagen car is also a well-sorted driver's car with a solid chassis, good body control and a genuinely engaging feel from behind the wheel. It is also a proven product with a strong safety record and a more reassuring ownership proposition for a first-time buyer. The Renault Duster Evolution 1.3 MT is the more powerful and more exciting car on paper, and its ride quality is genuinely excellent. However, while the 1.3 turbo petrol is characterful and powerful, it's not particularly engaging to drive. And though comfortable and solid-feeling, this Renault car feels a bit ponderous compared to the tighter-wound Taigun, and for an enthusiast, isn't quite as fun. For a first car, the slightly more compact Taigun will also be easier to get to grips with from behind the wheel.

Considering a 3 year subscription plan instead of buying a Duster outright. Has anyone actually done this long term, does it work out cheaper once you add everything up.

Hi, I own a 2014 (October) Duster diesel 85PS and have driven 1.25 lakh km. I am extremely happy with it. I want to change now, primarily because I want to upgrade to newer features. I have almost finalised the new Duster 1.3-litre, but the lack of a diesel option is the only factor stopping me. I am from Vizag and have a 50:50 city-to-highway usage pattern. Kindly advise.

Given your usage pattern of 50-50 city and highway driving, the lack of a diesel option in the new Renault Duster is not a deal-breaker. The 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine is a strong performer and offers good drivability on highways, while still being manageable in city conditions. This new Renault car also brings a significant upgrade in features, safety and overall refinement compared to your 2014 model, which seems to be your primary motivation for the upgrade. The only caveat is fuel efficiency. The diesel Duster was known for its strong efficiency, especially on highways, and the turbo petrol will not match that.If you drive a lot and prefer to stick to diesels with all the modern bells and whistles, the Kia Seltos and Mahindra XUV 7XO diesel are worth considering.
