Mini Countryman Electric expert review
The Countryman EV shatters the “Mini” image with its large footprint, larger even than a Jeep Compass. But thanks to its curvy lines and champagne-coloured accents, it retains a chic, urban vibe. Optional 19-inch alloys and LED elements further enhance its visual appeal, though standard 17-inch wheels come stock. A black roof and wraparound glass lend it a sporty wagon-like silhouette.

Step inside, and the circular 9.4-inch OLED touchscreen immediately grabs attention with its brilliant clarity and fun graphics. However, it doubles as the speedometer, which is impractical. The optional Favoured Pack (Rs 4.6 lakh) adds a basic HUD and other upgrades. Upholstery includes recycled fabric and brown leatherette, but open-pore textures might struggle in dusty Indian conditions. The rear is surprisingly roomy and comfortable for two, though a knees-up seating position persists. Boot space is a generous 460 litres, but there's no spare tyre.

Powered by a 204hp front-wheel-drive motor and a 66.45kWh battery, the Countryman EV feels quick around town but uninspiring when pushed hard. Its 0-100kph time of 8.6 seconds trails rivals like the Ioniq 5 or Volvo XC40 Recharge. Still, the EV is smooth, and “Iconic Sounds” mode with faux engine noises adds some fun. But don’t expect thrills.

The Mini claims 462km (WLTP) range. Real-world figures will be lower, but it supports 130kW DC fast charging for a 10–80% top-up in under 30 minutes. A full charge via 22kW AC takes about 3 hours 45 minutes — decent, but not exceptional.

This Mini still offers a go-kart-like feel, with sharp steering and impressive agility. But the ride suffers due to its noisy suspension and optional 19-inch wheels that amplify bumps and road imperfections. Comfort isn’t compromised, but cabin noise detracts from the premium experience.

Standard kit includes LED lights, sunroof, 17-inch alloys and a rear-view camera. Spend more on trim packs to unlock 19-inch wheels, a Harman Kardon sound system, power tailgate and customisable lighting. However, it misses some key features like ventilated seats, a 360-degree camera, and curtain airbags — all expected at this price.
7
At Rs 55 lakh, the Countryman EV feels overpriced against better-equipped and more refined rivals. But its style, character and uniqueness can’t be denied. If you're driven by emotion rather than logic, this electric Mini will charm you — just don’t expect it to win the spec-sheet war.
