I currently own a Hyundai Venue 1.2 petrol. I am considering for an upgrade and my requirements include a 7-seater petrol or diesel automatic SUV under 25 lakh (on-road) with 80:20 city to highway ratio with maximum 15,000 km annually. Can I consider electric as well. What would be your recommendation? I am considering XUV 7X0, Safari or the Alcazar but I'm open to other options as well. Thanks in advance.

Given your requirements, the Mahindra XUV 7XO diesel automatic would be our recommendation. With an 80:20 city-to-highway ratio and 15,000 km a year, diesel still makes sense because the XUV 7XO's diesel engine is refined, efficient and well suited to both city driving and long highway runs. The 7XO also offers a usable third row, strong performance and a well-equipped cabin, making it a proper upgrade from your Venue. The Tata Safari is a strong alternative if you prioritise ride comfort and a more spacious third row, but the XUV 7XO offers a better overall ownership experience and a more modern feature set. The Hyundai Alcazar petrol automatic is the more refined and easier-to-drive option in the city, but its third row is tighter and it does not feel like as big a step up from the Venue. On the electric front, the Mahindra XEV 9S is worth considering if you have home charging and predictable daily usage, but at Rs. 25 lakh on-road you are likely to be looking at the lower variants, and the XUV 7XO diesel still makes more sense given your usage pattern.Overall, the XUV 7XO diesel automatic strikes the best balance between space, performance, efficiency and long-term ownership.

Dear Team, I am quite perplexed and would greatly appreciate your assistance. I currently drive a 2023 Hyundai Creta Turbo top-end model and am looking to upgrade to a superior vehicle, with a budget of under Rs 30 lakh. My driving is evenly split between highways and city roads. Usually, there are two adults and one teenager in the car for 99% of my drives. I also admit that I do not have a strong parking sense, which makes me apprehensive about driving larger vehicles. I require a fully automatic car. Once a year, I travel with my family of four adults, one teenager, and a dog, along with substantial luggage to hilly destinations such as Shimla, Mussoorie, and Manali. My Creta has never struggled with the overall load, and I have never faced any issues with its performance or ability to handle steep climbs, even with the air conditioning on and the car fully loaded. The most economical option appears to be the top-end Alcazar, as it is currently available with a discount. However, I am considering the XUV700 top-end AX7L, as I believe it might offer more power and luxury. I am also anticipating the launch of the new MG Hector, which I expect to be more luxurious and fuel-efficient. Could you please advise me on which car would be most suitable for my requirements? If I opt for the top-end Alcazar Turbo Diesel, will it be capable of handling steep climbs with a full load, or should I consider the XUV700 with its 2.0-litre engine? Also, which of these vehicles would provide greater comfort in Delhi's bumper-to-bumper traffic? Regards, Ady

Given your usage pattern, the Mahindra XUV 7XO AX7L diesel automatic is the best car under 30 lakh. Your annual hill trips with a full load, including four adults, a teenager, a dog and substantial luggage, are the key factor here. The XUV 7XO's 2.2-litre diesel engine is significantly more powerful and torquey than the Alcazar's 1.5-litre diesel, which will make a noticeable difference on steep climbs with a full load. The XUV 7XO also offers a more spacious and comfortable cabin, especially in the third row, which will be appreciated on long journeys. The Hyundai Alcazar diesel automatic is a good value proposition, especially with current discounts, and it will handle hill climbs with a full load, but it will not feel as effortless as the XUV 7XO. This Mahindra car XUV 7XO also feels more premium inside and offers a more luxurious overall experience. In Delhi's bumper-to-bumper traffic, the Alcazar's smaller size and lighter steering make this Hyundai car slightly easier to manoeuvre, but the XUV 7XO's automatic gearbox is smooth and easy to live with, and the difference is not significant enough to outweigh the XUV 7XO's advantages on your hill trips. The MG Hector is worth considering if you are willing to wait, but it is unlikely to match the XUV 7XO's diesel performance and overall package. The XUV 7XO AX7L diesel automatic is the most complete upgrade from your Hyundai Creta, offering the right balance of power, space, comfort and luxury for your needs.

My Alcazar's PUC certificate expired without me even noticing, got pulled over for it on a random Sunday.

I drive 2021 model Hyundai Alcazar 2.0 petrol. It has so far done 56000 plus kms and giving satisfactory service. I live in Surat where we have great roads. It helps me to use cruise mode even during city driving. In cruise mode I maintain 47 kmph speed at which engine runs at 1200 rpm. I am often getting 14+ kmpl in city drives which is very good considering 2.0 litre engine. I usually take my car for long drives. In pure highway long drives, I have achieved a max of 21 kmpl by maintaining speed between 75 to 80 kmph speed.

I’m planning to keep my next 7-seater for 8–10 years. My annual running is around 12,000km, mostly on the highway, although the car may sometimes remain parked for 3–6 months because I work abroad. My budget is around Rs 18 lakh, with some flexibility of another Rs 1–2 lakh, and I prefer a manual. I’m currently considering the Hyundai Alcazar Executive petrol, Alcazar diesel and Mahindra XUV 7XO base/AX3 diesel. The XUV 7XO is a large and heavy car, so I’m concerned that the petrol version may not deliver good real-world fuel economy. The Tata Safari petrol is also on the list, but I have some concerns about Tata’s after-sales service. My priorities are long-term reliability, real-world mileage, maintenance costs and overall peace of mind rather than just features. I’m also considering the implications of E20 petrol and potential DPF/AdBlue-related issues with a diesel car that may sit unused for several months. The XUV 7XO’s lower variants also have a long waiting period, whereas Hyundai is currently offering a Rs 1 lakh ex-showroom discount on the Alcazar. I’m currently driving a 2008 Maruti Suzuki SX4 petrol manual. There are six adults and a toddler in the family. Considering all these factors, which one would you personally buy in this situation, and why?

Go for the Hyundai Alcazar Executive Diesel Manual as it best fits your requirements. Your usage of 12,000 km/year, mostly on highways, means a diesel manual makes sense because the fuel savings will add up over time, and the Alcazar diesel is a proven, reliable package with a comfortable ride and a strong service network. The Alcazar is also a more manageable size than the Mahindra XUV 7XO, and the discount you are getting makes it even better value. The XUV 7XO diesel is a great car, but the long waiting period and larger size make it less practical for your needs. The Tata Safari petrol is not the right choice here because your usage is highway-heavy and diesel is the better fit. The Alcazar diesel will give you the best balance of efficiency, reliability and peace of mind over the long term.
