BMW C 400 GT expert review
10.0
The BMW C 400 GT is the only true maxi-scooter on sale in India and it has serious road presence. Its large proportions, wide front apron, tall windscreen and LED lighting make it stand out instantly. The overall design looks neat and cohesive, while the Alpine White paint further highlights its size. Quality levels are top notch, as expected from BMW, with premium switchgear, a well-finished seat and a crisp TFT display similar to BMWβs larger motorcycles. Features like keyless ignition and a keyless fuel-filler cap add to the premium feel.
9.0
Comfort is one of the C 400 GTβs biggest strengths. The long and wide seat is extremely supportive, with a thick padded backrest between the rider and passenger sections. The relaxed riding posture and spacious floorboard make it comfortable for both city rides and long highway journeys. The handlebar placement is well judged and doesnβt foul with the riderβs knees. Wind protection from the large screen is also excellent.
However, underseat storage is not as generous as expected because the engine takes up a lot of space. BMWβs Flexcase system adds extra storage when parked, allowing you to fit a full-face helmet, but it cannot be used while riding.
8.0
The C 400 GT packs the biggest and most powerful engine currently available in a scooter in India, and performance is genuinely impressive. Acceleration is quick and effortless, with the scooter crossing 80kph and even 100kph very easily. The engine remains remarkably smooth at highway speeds, making 120kph cruising comfortable and relaxed. Roll-on performance is also very strong, with the scooter feeling quicker than some motorcycles in overtaking situations.
The only small complaint is that the exhaust note sounds quite conventional and lacks a distinctive character.
8.0
Despite its large size and 214kg weight, the C 400 GT handles surprisingly well. The suspension setup deals with poor roads very effectively and offers one of the best ride qualities among scooters in India. Stability at high speeds is excellent, while the scooter still feels agile enough around corners. The wide tyres inspire confidence and the Bybre brakes provide strong stopping power.
9.0
The C 400 GT comes loaded with features. The TFT display supports smartphone connectivity, navigation and notifications. It also gets LED lighting, keyless functions and adjustable rear suspension preload. Braking performance is strong, although a rear brake lock for inclines would have been useful.
9.0
Starting at Rs 10.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the BMW C 400 GT is extremely expensive for a scooter. But there is nothing else quite like it in India. It combines strong performance, superb comfort, excellent ride quality and premium appeal in a way no other scooter currently does. If you want a unique and luxurious urban runabout, the C 400 GT is simply the best scooter money can buy in India.
