Volkswagen has finally raised the curtains off the much awaited Polo at the Auto Expo. Positioned as a premium hatchback, the VW Polo will feature both the petrol and diesel engines.

The 1.2-litre petrol engine will produce 75bhp of power at 5400rpm and will churn out 11.22kgm of max torque at 3750rpm. The diesel variant is equipped with a similar capacity 1.2-litre engine with an output of identical 75bhp, but with an increase in torque – 18.36 of max torque at 2000rpm.

Available in three trim levels – Treadline, Comfortline and Highline – the Polo will come equipped with a 5-speed manual gear box.

On the outside, the Polo features body colored bumpers, galvanized anti-corrosion body parts, green tinted heat absorbent glass and the top end model also gets 15’ alloys wheels.

On the inside, the dashboard looks tough and feels it’s built to last. It comes equipped with MP3 player, steering wheel tilt, and height adjustable driving seats. Storage space includes front door pockets large enough to hold big bottles and a glove box that has a dedicated storage for sunglasses. The single-fold rear seats will have a folding backrest, sad that it cannot be folded completely.

Safety features include dual airbags for the driver and passenger, Anti-lock Braking system (ABS), central locking and anti theft immobilizer.

Also on display is the Polo race car that will be seen on Indian race tracks when the Indian Polo Cup commences this year. The race Polo will feature a 1.6-litre common rail diesel engine with an output of 130bhp at 4400rpm while producing 25.51kgm of max torque at 1500-2500rpm.

Driving on 17’ alloys and 200/60 section slick tyres, the race Polo will come equipped with a 6-speed manual gearbox. The race Polo has adjustable race suspensions, aerodynamic body kit with front and rear spoiler, side skirts and rear wings.

Safety features include FIA approved roll cage, fire extinguisher system, electric cut off system, integrated head protection, 6 point seatbelt for HANS system and safety net on driver side. The race Polo will also sport an additional display and data logger system with an on-board camera.
