Volvo has introduced  its performance arm, Polestar, in India with the launch of the S60 Polestar sedan. Priced at Rs 52.5 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the S60 Polestar gets some model-specific changes to go with its high-performance image.

Changes over the standard S60 include a new body kit with added aero elements, a new sportier suspension setup with stiffened dampers, larger 20-inch Polestar alloy wheels, bigger brakes and an upsized turbocharger to develop added power.

Going with the sportier theme, the cabin gets new sports seats up front, nubuck leather upholstery, a Polestar steering along with carbonfibre inserts across the cabin.

The biggest talking point though, is the engine. While older models used a 3.0-litre, in-line six-cylinder petrol unit, the new car follows Volvo’s downsizing philosophy and is powered by a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine good for 367hp and 470Nm of torque. The engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox and an all-wheel-drive system.

A rival to the likes of the Mercedes-AMG C43, the S60 Polestar replaces the 306hp S60 T6 petrol to become the only petrol offering in the S60 line-up.

Great comfort and support in A4, though some may find the backrest too upright.

Virtual Cockpit digi dials are cutting-edge.

No spare tyre eating into boot space!

Merc’s quick steering means it’s easy to chuck into bends. Good body control too.

Merc’s cabin is high on wow factor and old-school charm, but while quality is good, you will find some poor bits.

Good back support in C 250d but seat squab too short to give proper thigh support.

Comand interface feels a step behind the others.

9-speed auto shifts seamlessly.

Merc’s panoramic sunroof will be a big hit.

3-series has an uncanny balance of comfort and dynamic ability; so good to drive.

BMW interior feels solid but the dash design is starting to feel dated now. It’s very driver focused though.

Low seat means tricky ingress, but once there, the BMW is superbly comfortable.

Rev-happy BMW engine pushed back for weight balance.

iDrive still the slickest system.

No camera, only rear parking sensors.
