VinFast, the Vietnamese EV maker, has filed a design patent for the VF 3 in India. The small EV SUV made its international debut at the 2024 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, 6 months after it was showcased in its homeland. While the VinFast is yet to confirm it, the filing of the design patent indicates that the VF 3 could be under consideration for our market.

    1. VinFast VF 3 is larger than Comet EV, but smaller than Tiago EV
    2. VF 3 has 210km of range
    3. Gets a 10-inch infotainment touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple Carplay

    VinFast VF 3 specifications

The VF 3 measure about 3,190mm in length, 1,679mm in width, and 1,620mm in height, which means it’s a bit longer and wider than the MG Comet EV (2,974x1,505x1,640mm), but not as large as Tata’s Tiago EV (3,769x1,677x1,636mm). VinFast’s smallest four-wheeler in markets abroad gets typical upright SUV styling – including a seemingly high ground clearance – along with 16-inch wheels shod in high profile rubber.

At the front, the VF 3 sports a trapizodal grille with the brand's elongated logo splitting what seems like LED headlights, and a beefy black bumper. Those bumpers extend all the way to the back, giving the wheelarches a flared look and flowing into the chunky rear bumper. The chrome VinFast logo at the rear stretches from tail-lamp to tail-lamp, which seem to be triangular LED units.

While VinFast has not revealed specific battery or powertrain details yet, the VF 3 is claimed to go about 201km on a single charge.

The Vietnamese EV maker says the EV SUV is equipped with a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and four seats – the rear seats fully fold to liberate a maximum of 550 litres of boot space, claims the brand. Images and videos of the VF 3 show that it gets a layered dashboard, a two-spoke steering wheel, a climate control system, and vertical, body-coloured side AC vents.

In its home country of Vietnam, the VF 3 is available in two trims – Eco and Plus – though what distinguishes them is yet unknown. In addition, the comp[any hasn’t confirmed if this will be the case for North American, European, and South-East Asian markets as well. At the event in Las Vegas, the EV maker said that it is set to begin accepting early reservations soon, and details regarding bookings, delivery, pricing, and warranty will be disclosed for each market in the near future.

    VinFast India plant construction begins

Just yesterday, VinFast broke ground on its integrated EV plant at Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. The brand has also requested the Indian government to cut import duties on cars for a short period so that it can bring in its models into the country before the plant starts churning out locally made models. VinFast has yet to reveal which of its extensive EV line-up will make it to our market.
