Vehicle registration and resale in Ranchi will soon be seamless with the launch of Vahan4 — an online app unveiled recently at the State Transport Department office by the National Informatics Centre. The app will make vehicle registration and resale in Ranchi an easier and automated process, eliminating the need to visit transport offices. By the end of this month, registrations will start in Ranchi and a couple of other districts, as a pilot study.

Speaking on this, State Transport Department Secretary Ratan Kumar said, “We are linking Vahan4 web-based application that links the department and all vehicle dealers. Once you buy a vehicle, the dealer can fill up mandatory details such as its chassis and engine numbers and all data needed to register a vehicle on this app, which will immediately generate the permanent registration number,"

He added that buyers would not have to visit their respective district transport offices (DTOs) as the same data can be accessed by the dealer. The DTO office will send a smart card version to the buyer’s address in a fortnight. The fees prescribed under the Motor Vehicle Act will remain the same.

The older version called Vahan2, is being used only in Jharkhand, and required customers to collect and receive documents manually. Vahan4 is a quicker software with auto-programmed options, making it a convenient and transparent interface.
